Pink Tutu Milan: A Ballet-tastic Whirlwind! (#1536)
Ciao, darlings! Emma here, back from another whirlwind trip to Milan, a city that always leaves my heart (and my wardrobe!) brimming with joy. This week's adventures, however, were especially dazzling, starting with a delicious journey on a charming Italian tram (the kind with a conductor!) that took me to the heart of Milan’s ballet scene – Teatro alla Scala. Yes, that Teatro alla Scala! It was simply breathtaking, even just the grand entrance, let alone the magic inside.
Speaking of magic, it’s been a particularly exciting week for me, dear readers, and not just because I’ve found an even more fabulous shade of pink to add to my wardrobe (a beautiful rose blush that screams "Milan chic"). Let’s be honest, a trip to Milan always means a pink-tastic spree in the boutiques and shops, with so much beautiful craftsmanship and that quintessential Italian elegance. And let's not forget those glorious lace trims and feather embellishments... talk about ballerina-worthy!
This week’s post feels particularly special, as it marks a landmark – the 1536th blog post on www.pink-tutu.com, a milestone dedicated to all you amazing tutu enthusiasts out there. Thanks for being a part of my journey, you incredible lot! Every week, on a Monday morning, you’re here with me, sharing this journey and the wonders of a ballerina’s world, and it’s truly amazing.
As you might know, my adventures are funded by my dancing – I am, after all, a dedicated ballerina first and foremost. And this week, I’ve been lucky enough to perform at some wonderful venues around Derbyshire. We were treated to a spectacular audience at the Derby Theatre last weekend - it was absolutely electrifying! It’s the pure joy of performing that fuels my love for travel. Knowing that I’m sharing this passion and encouraging others to discover the magic of dance…well, there’s just nothing quite like it!
Anyway, back to Milan!
This time, I found myself mesmerised by the magic of “Le Sacre du Printemps”. Stravinsky’s score is just SO powerful, full of dramatic peaks and haunting whispers – just perfect for a night at the opera! And let's talk about the choreography, those expressive, almost primordial movements… It truly captivated me, sending chills down my spine and a flutter to my tutu. It made me think about the true power of movement and expression in dance – it’s a story that can be told without words, just through a blend of rhythm, form, and emotion. It was inspiring!
But it wasn’t just about the spectacle, darling, it was the whole atmosphere that was truly special. Stepping out onto the cobbled streets after the performance, with the warm, vibrant lights of Milan wrapping around me, felt like I was stepping out of a dream.
Of course, any ballet pilgrimage wouldn’t be complete without some seriously chic outfits, and let me tell you, Milan delivered! From elegant palazzo pants to floaty floral dresses, this city is a paradise for the stylish. You could almost say, I came, I saw, I shopped! Every corner of Milan offers a new surprise, from artisan shoe shops bursting with creativity to charming boutiques filled with quirky little trinkets.
Speaking of trinkets, you simply must pop into the wonderful little shops in the Brera district. Here, I stumbled upon the most beautiful antique brooch, a silver swan with ruby-red eyes, perfect for a statement tutu! You just never know what you’ll find hidden in these fascinating streets.
Now, darling, I have a confession – I’m rather obsessed with this new, delicate floral silk scarf I discovered in a shop hidden in the maze of cobbled lanes in Brera. It’s the softest blush pink with tiny sprigs of embroidered violets… and, of course, it pairs perfectly with a tulle skirt, a ruffled blouse, and a vintage floral brooch! It’s already a staple for any Milanese afternoon.
And for those moments when my feet weren't dancing across the stage or swirling across the marble floors of Teatro alla Scala, I found myself enjoying the quieter moments of exploring. This city is truly enchanting, filled with secrets to uncover in every corner. From quiet gardens where you can lose yourself in the rustling of leaves, to hidden squares where the city's hustle and bustle seems miles away. I found myself sitting on a bench in the tranquil Giardini Pubblici Indro Montanelli, watching the sun set over the Duomo and taking in the serene beauty of this bustling city.
But a trip to Milan isn’t just about the elegant shops and the awe-inspiring architecture – it’s also about embracing the local flavours. Whether it's indulging in a traditional aperitivo on a sun-soaked terrace, or savouring a plate of mouthwatering pasta, this city is a food lover’s dream! And, let's be honest, I couldn’t resist trying a few delicious cakes – they are the epitome of Parisian-inspired confectionary. But don’t worry, I balanced those indulgent treats with a light lunch at one of Milan’s many delightful street markets!
Speaking of local flavours, you simply must indulge in the gelato here, darling! This gelato, creamy and dreamy with bursts of sweet flavour, was pure happiness. It was like biting into a summer afternoon, full of sunshine and deliciousness. And let me tell you, nothing pairs better with a beautiful afternoon walk than a scoop (or three) of delicious gelato, a beautiful view, and of course, my signature pink tutu. It's simply a magical combo!
One thing I love about Milan is how vibrant it feels – like it’s always moving, always evolving, but also full of history and charm. Walking through the cobbled streets, admiring the incredible Duomo, the Renaissance artistry, and those glorious Italian architectural masterpieces, you can’t help but feel inspired.
Now, for my fellow tutu lovers out there, this trip was extra special thanks to the beautiful street performances I discovered. It wasn’t just classical ballet either, although there were some exquisite dancers performing at the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II – those long flowing lines, graceful movements, and that effortless beauty were mesmerising! I also spotted a group of talented contemporary dancers – their style was bold and expressive, really drawing the eye, captivating the passerby, and even drawing me in! The energy was electrifying and made me want to grab my own tutu and start dancing!
You know how much I love to watch street performers, and Milan definitely didn’t disappoint! You can feel the raw passion in each performance, and it really brings the city alive, showcasing so much creative talent, every corner offering a unique and captivating moment.
Milan, it’s safe to say, stole my heart yet again, with its breathtaking beauty, endless fashion delights, and that exhilarating atmosphere – and not to mention, the most scrumptious food!
But as always, my dear readers, it’s time to head home, back to my little studio, ready to share my experiences with you and hopefully inspire you all to wear pink tutus with a little more confidence and joy.
Until next Monday, darling, Emma x
