Pink Tutu Milan: Ciao Bella, Milan! (Blog Post #1540)

Wednesday, 11th December, 2024

Buongiorno, darlings! It's Emma from Derbyshire, back in Milan and feeling oh-so-pink! The city's embraced me with open arms (and possibly a little bit of confusion about my bright pink tutu). As you all know, Milan is the city of fashion, and it feels absolutely divine to be back, exploring the shops, the cafes, the atmosphere… and of course, the amazing ballet performances!

Travelling by Tram

My trusty pink suitcase, full of tutus and sequins, is nestled at the foot of my hotel bed (it’s an absolutely delightful boutique hotel with floral wallpaper and a darling little terrace). After a spot of breakfast, I ventured out to the city centre, hopping on the tram in the glorious winter sunshine. The tram ride is a treat in itself, gliding past Milan's majestic buildings. A friendly local, who actually wore a pink beret (I am a walking advertisement!), chatted with me about the opera. He suggested I see Verdi’s Aida at La Scala next week, so naturally, I’ve already booked tickets!

Fashion & Ballet: A Perfect Combination

Of course, my afternoon wouldn't be complete without a bit of shopping! My go-to spot is always the Corso Buenos Aires – such an energetic and lively street filled with stylish boutiques and charming independent shops. And let's face it, pink looks simply gorgeous against the festive Milanese architecture. I picked up the most beautiful velvet scarf, perfect for those cold December evenings. My heart practically skipped a beat when I saw a new, limited edition ballet-inspired lipstick – the shade, "Prima Ballerina," was pure perfection. You know I just had to take it home!

Milan’s Ballet Scene

Tonight, however, was all about the ballet! It's no secret I love me some Balletto, and Milan is a dream for any dancer. Today's show at Teatro alla Scala was an absolute whirlwind of talent and artistry. The Swan Lake production was stunning – the ballerina was ethereal, the prince noble, and the swans, oh my! They glided across the stage with such grace, and the costumes… let's just say I'm officially adding a feathered tutu to my wish list.

Ballet Class: Keeping it Lean and Fit

But before I lost myself in dreams of feathery tutus, it was time for my ballet class! Nothing like a vigorous session of barre work to remind you how many muscles are in your legs. Luckily, Milan is teeming with amazing ballet studios. My absolute favourite is the “Balletto in Movimento” – a beautiful, spacious studio filled with a warm and friendly energy. I have to admit, after an hour of tendus, pirouettes, and pliés, my muscles are singing a beautiful (if slightly sore) song.

The Magic of Milan

You know, Milan is such a vibrant city, bursting with art, culture, and endless energy. It's a city that inspires me to move, to dance, to create. It’s no wonder why the great ballerinas like Carla Fracci trained and performed here. And the thing about Milan is, no matter how grand the ballet or how amazing the shops, the simple joys of the city – a stroll through the park, a cup of coffee in a sunny cafe, or a ride on the tram – are what truly makes my heart sing.

Pink Tutu Challenge: Spread the Pink Joy!
