Pink Tutu Milan - Post #1565: A Whirlwind Wednesday in the City of Fashion

Ciao bella! It's Wednesday, the 4th of June, 2025, and I'm back in Milan, a city that's practically a ballet performance itself - the chic cafes, the strutting fashionistas, the architectural flourishes… it's a whirlwind of beauty! As I sip my cappuccino at my favourite cafe on the Corso Buenos Aires (which, naturally, has the most wonderful pink and floral wall mural, I practically live here) - I'm reflecting on what's been a gloriously pink and glittery whirlwind. This week, I'm showcasing some of my recent adventures, as my Milan travels continue, and let me tell you, the "Pink Tutu Milan" adventure never gets old!

Arriving in Style

After a fabulous train journey from my Derbyshire home (that, of course, included a meticulously curated pink suitcase - gotta keep the ballerina look going!) I arrived at the central station with my tutu bag slung over my shoulder and a twinkle in my eye. I'm telling you, nothing beats that thrill of arriving in a new city, especially one as stylish and sophisticated as Milan. And, I was instantly enchanted by the smell of the freshly baked bread, and the sound of chattering, happy, Italians… Milan was waiting for me with open arms, or at least that’s how it felt!

Pro Tip: Always take a small pink feather boa and a sparkling crown to bring a touch of whimsy to any train journey! I find they really make you feel fabulous, and you never know what wonderful fellow traveller you might inspire.

The Perfect Tutu for Milan

I made my way to my lovely little Airbnb in the Porta Venezia neighbourhood, and unpacked. Of course, my pink tutu went straight up on display – gotta have your best tutu on show! And, the perfect tutu for a trip to Milan is a vintage-style pink number. We're talking big tulle, a scattering of sequins, and maybe even a ribbon or two! ( I think a pink satin bow ties the whole look together!)

This time I packed the tutu from a recent Parisian vintage shop find. It's actually a lilac tutu with pale pink sparkles - It’s a bit less “pink” in tone but perfect for the understated Milan chicness. But don’t worry! The sparkle is absolutely there! This tutu looks chic as it twirls – with its big shape and luxurious feeling fabric. And, it matches my sparkly lilac shoes (which I also purchased in Paris! – Paris is my dream shop!). You can’t go wrong with sparkly footwear for a day out. Trust me, every step becomes a happy, little prance!

On to the Shops!

Now, I just couldn’t possibly come to Milan and not pay a visit to the famous Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. This beautiful, vaulted shopping arcade is a feast for the eyes and a haven for fashionistas! And yes, of course, the shopping is the absolute best thing about a Milan trip - the designer shops! Oh, la la! My eyes popped right out when I saw a beautiful new Prada clutch in pale pink! - but unfortunately, it came with a rather sizeable price tag.

And my oh my - did you know you can shop vintage haute couture here?! The best finds always come from hidden little shops – not always high street stores. That is how I found the vintage shop on a little cobbled back street just off Via Torino where I found the tutu. This shop has some of the best haute couture pieces – for a fraction of the price of some of the big names.

However, if you’re looking for gorgeous window displays – The Duomo district is the place to go. The Versace windows are just stunning and of course, they are always a fashion hit with people watching - a great place for a little photoshoot. ( I took my “Pink Tutu Milan” photos just outside.)

And you can’t mention a day shopping in Milan without saying: "Don’t forget to pop in for a pastry at the best pastry shops – you need an Italian “Cornetto” or a creamy brioche!"

Pro Tip: The “Cornetti” - Italian croissants, can come with cream fillings, with chocolate inside or they can even be sprinkled with chocolate. Make sure you eat these delights slowly while sitting on a little park bench or enjoying a break in a local shop window browsing the window displays – just like the Milanese ladies! **

Dance Classes at Teatro alla Scala

However, it wasn’t just about shopping this week - I always have time for some dance! And what better place to have a dance lesson than at Teatro alla Scala, Milan’s legendary opera house! The whole place has a feeling of elegant and historic charm. They run amazing adult classes throughout the year in ballet, jazz, and contemporary.

And yes - you guessed it, they also offer wonderful classes with tutus – or in Italian – "tulle". ( This made my heart happy). So, for the ultimate experience, you must take a “tulle” class. You feel so chic swirling around the studio floor and hearing the classical music!

Now, what to wear for class at Teatro alla Scala? For this class, I thought my most glamorous pink tulle ballet skirt was in order - I also bought that in Paris a few months ago at a delightful French vintage shop near the Palais Garnier, which also has fabulous history! The perfect vintage pink for dancing under the historical chandeliers. The rest of my outfit was classic ballerina: a classic black, cotton ballet top, with black satin ribbons. And of course, ballet shoes, in pink, of course - and they had little sparkly pink jewels to finish the look perfectly! I was set for an evening of beautiful ballet dancing in Milan! And let me tell you, the elegance of Teatro alla Scala definitely rubbed off on me!

Pro Tip: I always find it’s good to wear a comfortable ballet top for dancing, but with a bit of sparkle to lift the outfit – and it goes so well with my ballet tutu!

My Favourite Evening Show - A Timeless Classic

Every week in Milan, I must always find time for the ballet or a beautiful opera show – because these experiences make the whole Milan trip worthwhile. This week, I took a trip back to the legendary Teatro alla Scala, to enjoy one of their shows. They are just so very elegant and beautifully choreographed! And this time - I was watching Swan Lake – one of my favourites! It's truly timeless! And, seeing the costumes - particularly the swans! Absolutely breathtaking! (I can’t wait to add a swan tutu to my wardrobe for future blog posts!)

The elegance of this whole theater and the fabulous location in Milan - really helps create a magical atmosphere – all I needed was a pink tutu and everything felt perfect!

Pro Tip: I like to travel on the Milanese Metro (the metro is fabulous and it goes all over the city!) I just love the sounds and the vibes, the locals are just lovely! (even when they are tired and rush-hour starts) If you go on a weekend, remember - many restaurants, bakeries and shops in Milan close - so don't leave things until too late - particularly at weekends!

### * Pink Tutu Milan - An International Blog*

Thanks so much for reading my blog, "Pink Tutu Milan"! My blog is posted every Monday and is a bit of a whirl wind, just like Milan! ( I have to have my life a little chaotic with all my adventures!). And don't forget - I always aim to inspire others to live a pink life and spread a little sparkle wherever you go! Remember, my lovely pink followers - the world’s a big, beautiful stage, so wear a tutu, twirl, and always be a little bit fabulous! Next Monday, I will have more tales from Milan.

And - keep your eye out for the new Pink Tutu shop which is due to open in the Autumn, in Derbyshire. I can’t say much, but there might be some amazing tutu-related, pink-filled and vintage inspired products available. This would also provide more funding for all of my travel and to help me find the perfect pink tutu’s.

See you next Monday for more adventures from Italy. Have a sparkly weekend!
