Hey there, Tutu Tribe! 🎀 It's your favourite pink-tutu-clad blogger, Emma, writing to you live from the beautiful, bustling city of Milan, Italy! As the saying goes, "When in Rome, wear pink," so this week I've traded in my Derbyshire hills for the glamour of Italian fashion and the grace of the Milanese ballet scene.
I can't lie, this week has been a whirlwind of exciting events, breathtaking performances, and some serious retail therapy! But let's start at the beginning, shall we?
Monday: A Tuscan Train Journey and A Spot of "Pinktastic" Shopping
The journey to Milan from Florence was an absolute joy! I'm a huge fan of train travel, especially in Italy. There's something so romantic about watching the countryside fly by as you sip on a latte and soak up the Italian sunshine. I felt like a character from one of those charming Italian films! Of course, I made sure to add a touch of "Emma-ness" to my outfit. My bright pink, floor-length tulle tutu perfectly complimented the Tuscan scenery! I can't tell you how many envious stares I got from fellow travellers! 😄
Milan, however, was a whole new world. This city is vibrant, dynamic, and full of life, just like my pink tutu! We started our adventure with a tour of the Teatro alla Scala, one of the most prestigious opera houses in the world. It was a truly breathtaking experience, and I was struck by its grandeur and historical significance. Afterwards, we headed straight to the shopping district for a little "pinktastic" shopping. I snagged a gorgeous, pastel pink silk scarf and some adorable ballet flats – they’re just the perfect shade of dusty rose.
Tuesday: A Ballet Class with Milan’s Finest and a Dinner Fit for a Queen
A true ballerina’s work is never done! This morning, I was privileged to attend a class with the incredible dancers of the Teatro alla Scala. They were all so talented and gracious, and it was a real privilege to train with them. Their precision and grace inspired me to elevate my own skills – I must say, I did manage to get my fouetté a little higher after the class. The energy and passion in the room were contagious, and it truly reinforced my love for ballet.
And what's a trip to Italy without indulging in delicious food? In the evening, we enjoyed a romantic dinner at a charming Italian restaurant near the Duomo. The pasta was incredible, and I enjoyed a decadent dessert while admiring the stunning cathedral bathed in the golden glow of evening.
Wednesday: "The Nutcracker" Revisited and a Night Out With Friends
You know how much I love watching the ballet, and today’s performance at the Teatro alla Scala didn't disappoint! This time it was Tchaikovsky’s timeless classic, “The Nutcracker.” I always enjoy the classic tale, and this rendition brought it to life with stunning costumes, impeccable technique, and some of the most expressive storytelling I’ve ever seen. There’s something truly special about seeing a ballet performance in a city so dedicated to the art form.
After the show, we enjoyed a lively dinner with friends at a trendy bistro. The atmosphere was vibrant, the music was infectious, and we talked, laughed, and celebrated our love of all things ballet, fashion, and, of course, pink! I discovered a delicious new cocktail: a “Tutu Martini”, made with gin, elderflower, and a pink pearl-shaped sugar rim. Cheers!
Thursday: A Day of Art, Culture, and the Perfect Pink Outfit
Thursday was a whirlwind of Milanese culture and history! In the morning, we visited the Museo del Novecento, a fantastic modern art gallery. Some of the sculptures and paintings were truly inspirational and the colours, well, they inspired some very pink ideas in my head!
The rest of the afternoon was dedicated to a leisurely stroll around the city. The streets were filled with vibrant shops, elegant buildings, and stylish people - just my cup of tea! My favourite part? The amazing vintage shops tucked away in quiet alleyways. I stumbled upon a beautiful blush-pink vintage dress that’s going straight to my closet - I think it’s destined to make its debut on a Parisian street corner, so watch out!
Friday: Fashion Extravaganza! A Day of Designer Dreams and Street Style Inspiration
Milan, of course, is known as the fashion capital of the world, and Friday was dedicated to soaking up the high-end glamour. We visited the Armani, Versace, and Prada flagship stores – oh my! While I won't spoil your wallet, I’ll just say that there were more than a few pieces that caught my eye…
As an absolute fashionista, I also spent the afternoon simply observing the street style! From effortlessly chic businessmen to edgy youth and the latest high-fashion trends, Milan’s street style is an incredible spectacle. It’s inspiring, artistic, and so unique, and I can’t wait to incorporate some of these styles into my own wardrobe! (Expect lots of pink, of course).
Saturday: Relaxing Under the Italian Sun and "Pinkifying" My Hair
It’s hard to say no to a lazy Saturday afternoon in Italy, so I spent the morning wandering through a local market, soaking up the warm sunshine and admiring the beautifully crafted handmade wares. I came across the most amazing silk scarf in the palest shade of blush - it was so soft and delicate. I just had to add it to my growing collection!
Later on, I treated myself to a visit to the local hair salon and let the hair stylists unleash their inner artist. It's always good to try something new. After much deliberation (and a lot of Instagram scrolling for inspiration), I decided to go with a gorgeous shade of rose-gold hair - a perfect blend of soft pink and champagne hues. What better way to embody the “Pink Tutu” spirit than by rocking a fab new shade of pink on my hair, right? 😉
Sunday: A Day of Reflections, Plans for the Future, and a Touch of "Pinktitude"
The weekend was filled with so many inspiring moments and happy memories - it’s a real testament to the power of travel and discovery! I enjoyed a reflective walk along the Navigli canals. The boats, the laughter, and the atmosphere created a dreamy, nostalgic mood.
This evening, as I write this blog, sitting with my laptop, my new rose-gold hair shining in the soft glow of a Parisian streetlight (it’s so easy to imagine I’m on a glamorous adventure, right?), I am truly brimming with gratitude. Gratitude for the opportunity to travel, to dance, to experience, and to share my passion with you all.
What's next for Pink Tutu? Well, you'll have to wait and see! My future is always brimming with new adventures and the ever-growing mission of "pinktifying" the world one tutu at a time!
I know I'm getting you all to wear pink, one blog at a time! My little Pink Tutu world just grows and grows…
Stay pink,
Emma xx
