Buongiorno, my lovelies! It’s Emma from the Pink Tutu, writing to you live from the vibrant, chic, and utterly inspiring city of Milan. This week, I'm bringing you the quintessential Milan experience - think tutus, trams, and tonnes of fabulous fashion. This city's got it all - history, art, culture, delicious food, and, of course, my all-time favourite, style!
Let me tell you, arriving in Milan by train after a whirlwind of performances back in the UK was absolutely exhilarating! It was like stepping into a chic fairytale, and, as usual, my Pink Tutu felt perfectly in place amongst the Italian fashionistas.
The energy here is infectious, so today's itinerary was packed with tutus, trams, and tons of exploring.
First stop, Teatro alla Scala!
I had to pay my respects to the grand old dame of Italian opera and ballet! Standing outside the magnificent building, the grandeur, history, and undeniable allure simply took my breath away.
Of course, I couldn't resist striking a pose or two in front of this architectural masterpiece. And yes, my pink tutu felt right at home, even against this iconic backdrop! (You can see my fab pictures on Instagram, if you're curious).
Then, fuelled by excitement and a delicious coffee, I hopped on the tram for a little Milanese sightseeing. It's been a while since I’ve used trams and I loved the whole nostalgic feeling. This city knows how to use transport to enhance its allure - sleek trams winding through cobbled streets, adorned with vintage architecture, is a true visual treat.
And speaking of visual treats, I had to indulge in a bit of retail therapy at the luxurious Gucci store on Via Monte Napoleone! It was a truly eye-opening experience - exquisite clothes, extravagant bags, and the most luxurious shoes I've ever seen. My dear pink tutu felt right at home surrounded by all that glamour, as it always does, don't you agree? And hey, maybe a bit of retail therapy is just the motivation I needed for my next fundraising show. 😉
Of course, no trip to Milan is complete without sampling the local delights. A quick detour for an authentic pizza (pepperoni, naturally!) and a creamy gelato, followed by an evening exploring the Navigli district with its charming canal, filled me with enough inspiration to last a lifetime!
The Magic of Milanese Ballet
Tomorrow, however, the real magic begins. I'm off to see the Teatro alla Scala ballet performance - "Romeo and Juliet." I'm so excited! I've been following the career of a young English ballerina, who is making her debut in the principal role of Juliet, and I’m very curious to see her work. Afterward, we're headed for an exclusive after-party at a charming café - I'm thinking chic drinks, Italian jazz, and more fabulous conversations about the world of dance! I'll be sure to share all the details with you next week.
You know, as I navigate through the labyrinthine streets of this beautiful city, with its cobblestone squares and breathtaking cathedrals, I can’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude. I am so very grateful to be living my dream - performing in gorgeous pink tutus, seeing amazing shows, exploring fascinating cities and sharing it all with you. It is a dream that was fueled by the sheer passion for dance, a belief in the power of art to inspire and bring people together, and of course, a touch of whimsical pink.
