Ciao, darlings! Emma here, your resident Pink Tutu enthusiast, beaming at you from the sunny streets of Milano! I know what you're thinking: “Milan in August?!” But let me tell you, there’s a certain magic in this vibrant city, even in the peak of summer.
The allure of the Milanese magic…
It's been a whirl of tutus and tiramisu since my last post, my darlings! Last week, I was twirling through the cobbled streets of Firenze, marvelling at the artistry of Brunelleschi's Duomo. My post, titled "Firenze, Floats my Boat!”, captured the essence of this beautiful Italian city, full of history, fashion, and a good dollop of Italian sunshine. Now I'm here in Milan, and already I can tell you: the charm and elegance of this place are intoxicating!
A Love Letter to Milan...
Now, Milan. Oh, Milan! Where to begin? It's simply bursting with life, sophistication and a chic energy that pulls you in and doesn't let go! The streets hum with laughter, Vespa engines, and the murmur of voices chattering over delicious cappuccinos. There’s a joie de vivre here that's positively infectious!
Just a few hours ago, I wandered through the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, this stunning glass-covered shopping arcade, like stepping into a fairytale palace. It's breathtaking - imagine ornate archways, beautiful mosaics, and shops with more gorgeous clothing, shoes and accessories than I can shake a tutu at! My eyes were positively twinkling as I took in all the breathtaking designs. You simply haven’t lived until you’ve marveled at the intricate artistry of Milan’s fashion.
Of course, the grand finale to any shopping extravaganza in Milan is indulging in the culinary delights. Oh my, let's not forget the food! From the perfectly creamy gelato to the mouthwatering pasta dishes (I'm still dreaming about that gnocchi with truffle sauce!), this city offers a symphony of flavors. The cafe culture in Milan is absolutely divine – watching the world go by with a cappuccino and a brioche in hand? Pure bliss!
On the Train Track...
Let me tell you, travelling to Milan by train was an absolute dream! I packed my signature pink tutu, my trusty pointe shoes, a suitcase full of elegant outfits for the week ahead, and a cheeky pink-striped travel blanket for those blissful train naps. The journey from Florence was picture perfect – I was lulled into a dreamy trance watching the rolling green hills and vineyards of Tuscany whizz by, like a scene out of a beautiful ballet.
Finding Inspiration…
My favourite thing about Milan is the way it seems to constantly surprise me. Just when I think I've discovered all the city has to offer, a charming little courtyard bursts into view, a vintage store hidden down a side street, a burst of fragrant blooms from a window box, a musician's music floating through the air. It’s this magic, this sense of discovery, that makes me feel alive and full of inspiration.
Speaking of inspiration… the inspiration for my dance routine this week comes from the magnificent architecture of Milan. There are so many impressive cathedrals, grand buildings, and hidden courtyards – it's like dancing through a historical dream! My choreography will involve graceful leaps, flowing movements, and even some pirouettes that echo the architectural curves of this gorgeous city. I’ll post the videos on Instagram, be sure to check them out. I’ll also be creating a fun tutorial for you all, inspired by the steps, so you can practice the moves at home and show your own creativity!
A Fashion Fix
It’s been an exciting day of exploring and soaking up Milan’s beautiful vibe. Of course, the pink tutu had to be worn, pairing it with a stylish blush pink shift dress and a pair of statement gold earrings - pure Milanese chic! The Italian style is definitely contagious – there’s a subtle flair and effortless elegance to everything, from the way they sip their espresso to the beautiful fashion and the art displayed in the city’s many galleries. I simply can’t get enough!
Ballet, a Language Without Words…
Tomorrow I’m catching the train to Brescia to perform at the “Festival delle Stelle,” a dance competition that is taking the Italian ballet scene by storm! It’s going to be such an exciting opportunity to showcase my dancing talent to a new audience. I'm already brimming with nervous energy, excited for the thrill of performance, the thrill of taking centre stage, and of course, the delicious pizza that awaits me in the region. I’ll share all about the festival in my next blog post.
My ballet performance journey helps fund my travelling and my blog, you see! And in return, I share my love for this beautiful art form, my journey through stunning cities, and my pink tutu inspiration. If that sounds like a good trade to you, why not subscribe to my website, www.pink-tutu.com? You won't be disappointed! I post once a week on a Monday morning, full of new ideas, fun insights, and a sprinkle of pink glitter.
I can’t wait to share my next Milan adventures, with a little bit of Italian magic sprinkled over everything, and I’ll be bringing you more ballet brilliance, as always. Until then, twirl on, my dears! Ciao for now.
