Hello lovelies, it's Emma from Derbyshire, England! As the calendar turns over to a brand new year, I'm kicking things off in style (literally) in the magnificent fashion capital of Milan! You see, dear readers, when it comes to chasing dreams, you have to leap before you look – and that's precisely what I've done.
As many of you know, I've been living the Pink Tutu dream for some time now, dancing my way through life in a kaleidoscope of colour and twirls. This week's adventure sees me in the city where fashion and artistry intertwine in a truly breathtaking way. The air crackles with creativity and inspiration, making this city the perfect place to start the year!
This week's journey to Milan is a double whammy – it's not only my first trip here, but also a delightful combination of business and pleasure. You see, my dear readers, this little Pink Tutu has a secret weapon – my dancing skills are not only for the stage. To fund my globetrotting adventures and bring you these juicy updates, I find myself performing in various dance shows across Europe, filling every step with joy and passion!
This trip in particular is all about sharing my passion with you. On Tuesday evening, I was delighted to be performing at the stunning Teatro alla Scala. Just imagining all those famous dancers who've graced this legendary stage, and to be standing on the same boards… it's truly a magical experience!
It's a little bit of a thrill, and frankly, the adrenaline is still pumping through me like a conductor's baton through a symphony orchestra. Performing under such historical, awe-inspiring conditions just puts the fire back in my ballet shoes! And yes, for this performance, I did slip on my lucky pink tutu, of course. How could I not? I’m telling you, there’s nothing quite like wearing a bright, cheerful pink to lift the spirits on any given day, especially while sharing my passion with others!
This being Milan, naturally fashion is a massive part of my journey. Let's face it, you can’t possibly be in Italy without letting your sartorial desires run wild! I am all about la dolce vita, embracing life with joy, passion, and style.
One of the first things I do upon arriving in any city, you see, is to go exploring, soaking up the atmosphere. And Milan hasn’t disappointed. This place is truly a fashion lover's paradise. Even before I reach the famed Via Monte Napoleone – the main shopping hub – the vibe here is electric! There's an almost tangible buzz around style, and everywhere you look, the city seems to whisper secrets of its rich fashion history.
It's like stepping into a glamorous fairytale. My first morning in Milan, I explored the vibrant Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II – this beautiful shopping arcade boasts a glass-covered dome and stunning mosaic floors.
You could almost say this beautiful historical monument was built for fashion and style – imagine it being built in the 19th century to cater for those passionate about haute couture, jewellery and even elegant food! This truly feels like the birthplace of chic – I was practically swooning over all the glamorous displays of handbags, jewellery and shoes.
Naturally, with an incredible place like this just around the corner, I took the chance to pamper myself with a beautiful pink tutu! Now, this was a particular treat: you know how much I adore this delightful shade of pink – and I couldn't help myself! My new tutu has layers and layers of fluffy tulle, and it’s just begging for a grand entrance! And naturally, to celebrate the occasion, I grabbed some adorable pink ballet shoes for the ultimate dance-ready ensemble. It's the little things, darling!
I also picked up a gorgeous pink satin hair ribbon at one of the charming local shops. This particular little ribbon is the perfect way to tie everything together. (See, even Pink Tutu needs a little coordination! ). I feel like an adorable little ballet fairy!
One of the things I adore most about travelling is trying new things. I think this is true for so many people, and especially with a subject like food! While I’m on this fashion odyssey, I’m of course enjoying Milan’s culinary offerings, but I also discovered that one of the most delightful ways to travel through a new city is to hop on board the tram!
As the tram glides through Milan’s beautiful streets, it feels as if I'm being swept away into a storybook world! It’s a great way to absorb all the incredible beauty surrounding you. And let me tell you, Milan is one breathtaking city, and the tram system allows you to enjoy so much more than a bus!
Not only can you see the beauty, but I can tell you, sitting on a comfy seat enjoying a lovely glass of sparkling prosecco (a definite must!), watching the world go by – it really allows you to get a true sense of place! It feels so very Italian, chic and glamorous! You don't just travel – you experience a city from the comfort of the tram! It’s like you're part of a captivating, constantly evolving performance – only this time, you get to experience it from the front row.
And who better to showcase the very best that Italy has to offer? This pink tutu of mine has found some truly charming travel companions in Italy:
Travel in style:Firstly - I adore how chic Milan’s ladies are. They take great pride in looking polished, and there’s nothing quite like witnessing that! So elegant! As soon as I stepped off the tram into the centre of Milan, the street style began! A wonderful cacophony of colours, furs, sparkles, sleek coats – it was so delightful to see!
I even saw a fellow fashion enthusiast with the most exquisite pink fedora hat! It was the perfect addition to their chic and minimalist outfit – a real inspiration for my own style!
Now, it was certainly a far cry from the elegant fashions of Milan's historical period (think 15th century)! Yet, still, I couldn’t help but smile – these little nuances give you such an insight into local culture, don't they?
Secondly – my travel companion: a gorgeous little vintage handbag that has been travelling with me. (She deserves a shout out because she truly makes every outfit). The moment she caught my eye, I knew she would make an amazing Pink Tutu travelling companion. Not only does she perfectly coordinate with my fashion choices, but I also adore that she’s had so many lives in previous journeys. She’s a testament to making the most of your travels. She tells a story!
