Belfast Bows & Bunheads: Summer's Hottest Tutu News! 🩰☀️
Hey there, lovelies! It's your girl, Emma, back with another scorching scoop of Belfast's ballet scene, all dressed up and ready to twirl you into the hottest summer trends. It’s officially time to trade in those cozy knits for floaty chiffon and embrace the season with some seriously stellar performances. Don’t worry, your girl is on the scene and spilling all the tea (or shall I say, prosecco?) on what's making waves in the world of ballet this summer. Let’s get this party started!
Pink Perfection at the Grand Opera House:First things first, you all know my obsession with pink is legendary. Well, get ready to swoon because the Grand Opera House is going full-on Barbiecore with their stunning production of The Sleeping Beauty this August! I'm talking blush tutus, ethereal sets, and the kind of romantic ballet that will have you dreaming of fairy-tale castles for weeks. The intricate choreography, the breathtaking costumes, and the magical music - it's the ultimate escape into a whimsical world of pink paradise.
Now, every good ballet connoisseur knows that a fab outfit is key. For this show, I’m planning on wearing a super feminine floral dress with a pop of pink - think soft ruffles and a delicate touch. If you want to go all out Sleeping Beauty-inspired, consider a princess-worthy tulle skirt paired with a classic white blouse. Either way, make sure to accessorize with delicate jewellery and a touch of blush-coloured blush. Don't forget a sparkling clutch for your phone, a lip-gloss to re-apply after those fabulous photo-ops, and you’ll be all set to enjoy a dreamy summer evening at the ballet.
Date: 20th - 26th August

Beyond The Stage: New Moves In Belfast 🩰Of course, the ballet isn’t just about grand performances – there’s so much going on in the local scene to get your heart pumping and your feet tapping. This summer, the Belfast Dance Academy is launching their “Summer Dance Extravaganza” – a chance for young dancers (and yes, those with a bit more experience!) to learn exciting new choreography, build confidence, and get their inner diva on!
I can’t help but feel excited about this – these events provide an opportunity to tap into our local talent and nurture the next generation of dance superstars! And while we’re on the subject, the Ballet Club is hosting its annual summer ball! It’s a chance to celebrate everything we love about ballet – gorgeous costumes, thrilling routines, and – my favourite – the tutu-ific atmosphere.
If you're a dance lover, you need to check out these events! Who knows, maybe you’ll even spot the next Moira Shearer or Rudolf Nureyev. I certainly hope to catch some performances and catch up with some old friends in the ballet community – the world needs more tutu talk!

Fashion Inspiration for Your Ballet-Inspired Summer 💃Summer is about showcasing those gorgeous limbs in those fab, light fabrics – the perfect excuse for a wardrobe upgrade. Think floaty skirts and chic crop tops - it’s a ballet dancers dream wardrobe for those after-show social gatherings and hot days in the sun! If you're looking for that touch of ballerina inspiration, consider pieces that have a feminine, romantic vibe, featuring light layers and delicate details like ruffles and lace. I recommend trying those flowing, bohemian silhouettes for a casual day look. Pair those airy skirts with a dainty white top and some dainty gold jewelry, and you’ll look the part of a ballerina queen off-duty.
For a more formal evening out, opt for a figure-skimming maxi dress in a floral print and some dazzling accessories. I absolutely adore wearing strappy sandals in shades of gold and nude – they give a hint of that ballet shoe sophistication. As always, don't forget your trusty tutu – those beautiful layers add instant princess vibes! A black tulle tutu will create a modern twist, while a delicate powder pink tutu screams soft, summer romance.
And here's a hot tip for all you tutu enthusiasts out there: Don't be afraid to get creative with those layered tulles. Layer a black and white tutu over a flowing white skirt – the look is surprisingly contemporary, stylish, and totally dance-ready. I mean, if the Queen of tutu (that’s me, by the way!), can rock a tutu, then anyone can. It’s all about feeling confident and channeling your inner grace!
