Forget your boring old beach holidays, because Chorley is where it's at for ballet lovers this summer! We've got so much going on, from stunning performances to vibrant workshops, it's all just waiting for you to waltz right in.
First up, Chorley Dance Academy is throwing a summer ball on the 20th July that's not to be missed. This dazzling event, bursting with talent and glitter, is celebrating all things dance with a show-stopping performance showcasing local talent, plus an exhibition showcasing amazing choreography from around the county. They've even got a special "wear your best tutu" prize, which you know I'll be trying my hardest to win (just try and stop me). It's a night for celebrating dance, so wear your most fabulous outfit, let loose, and enjoy!
For all the little ones just discovering the joy of dancing, Chorley Youth Theatre is holding a series of fun summer workshops at the town hall, perfect for letting your little pirouettes blossom! I remember starting in these workshops when I was younger, and they're seriously amazing! They even have a dedicated 'tutu-making' session where you get to create your very own fabulous tutus – get ready for some seriously gorgeous pink!
If you want a more immersive ballet experience, head to Chorley's TheatroTech for their August programme, showcasing a selection of dance films by local independent artists, curated around the themes of "summer" and "freedom." This is your chance to get a real taste of experimental choreography and dance films! Plus, who wouldn't want a little dose of thought-provoking ballet to go with their iced tea and afternoon sun?
Finally, don't miss the annual "Chorley Summer Ballet Picnic" on the 28th August! Pack your picnic basket with sandwiches, some strawberries, and a glass of pink lemonade, grab your best picnic blanket, and get ready for an evening filled with breathtaking ballet performed under the summer sky. It's the perfect blend of open-air theatre and classic dance, set amongst the gorgeous greenery of the Chorley town centre.
