Summer Ballet News in Consett

Consett's Ballet Scene is Blooming! 🌸

Hello fellow dance enthusiasts! Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood ballerina and #tutunews chronicler. The summer sun might be making the studio floor feel like a hot plate, but the Consett ballet scene is anything but sleepy. We've got new classes popping up, a thrilling production in the works, and enough tutu inspiration to make you want to pirouette into a shop and buy every single pink outfit!

Summer Splash at the Dance Academy

Firstly, I have to rave about the fabulous new summer sessions at the Consett Dance Academy. I popped in to try out the "Ballet for Beginners" class last week, and it was honestly the most uplifting experience. Our teacher, the fabulous Miss Bailey, is a true pro – kind, encouraging, and knows how to make learning fun.

Now, the beauty of a beginner class is that it's completely beginner-friendly. We went through the basic steps - pliés, tendus, and some gorgeous relevés - and then explored some beautiful movements that really flowed. I was honestly surprised how quickly I felt myself gaining confidence (and strength in my legs, which, let’s be honest, can’t hurt!). If you've been considering getting into ballet, or just want to dip your toes (pun intended!) into a new form of exercise, this is the perfect opportunity!

"Swan Lake" Takes Consett By Storm

Speaking of inspiration, the Consett Ballet Company are going all out with their production of "Swan Lake"! They’ve secured the iconic venue – Consett Civic Hall - for the grand performance, and rehearsals have already started. This is BIG news for the local ballet scene.

The costumes are being specially crafted in London (and, let me tell you, they’re gorgeous. Seriously, think layers of tulle and sparkly feathers – the perfect summer outfit!) The choreography is being put together by a world-renowned choreographer (who, I'm sworn to secrecy on, but trust me, she's incredible). And the lead role, Odette? Well, let's just say I hear rumour there's a budding prima ballerina in our midst…

Ballet in Bloom:

Beyond the studio, ballet is everywhere in Consett this summer! The town's famous flower market has embraced the ballet theme with flower arrangements inspired by different ballets. Who knew a bunch of pink lilies could embody "Giselle"? The park, where many budding ballerinas practice their fouettés in the morning light, has seen a surge in families and locals watching the sunset – probably fuelled by a yearning for the elegance of classical ballet.

#tutunews at its Finest

Speaking of pink, I've got to mention the incredible pop-up shop that has opened on the high street, dedicated entirely to tutu fashion! It’s literally a ballerina's dream. Think everything from sequined leotards and tutus with bows that make you feel like a princess to sparkly tights and cute little dance bags. This place is seriously giving me all the summer ballet feels. I've been stocking up on new outfits for my classes and even got a pretty pair of ballet slippers in the prettiest shade of rose gold – just to celebrate this brilliant news for Consett’s ballet scene.

So, as summer gets into full swing, Consett is embracing ballet with open arms and pointy shoes. I can’t wait to see what the next few months bring - more inspiring classes, incredible performances, and maybe even some spontaneous ballet performances in the town square. You never know what might happen in Consett!

Stay tuned, darlings, for more #tutunews, and see you at the barre!

xx Emma
