Summer Ballet News in Kensington

Kensington: Tutu News is Hot!

Hello, darlings! It’s Emma here, your local ballet blogger, and Kensington is practically bursting with all things tutu this summer! I'm buzzing about all the fabulous ballet happenings, so get ready to put on your dancing shoes and join me for a whirlwind tour.

Step 1: Get your tickets to The Sleeping Beauty, Kensington’s must-see summer spectacle. It’s at the gorgeous Royal Albert Hall, and let me tell you, the costumes and sets are breathtaking! They’ve truly outdone themselves this year. Expect grand entrances, sparkling tutus that you can’t miss (one even boasts feathers!), and the most graceful, breathtaking leaps you’ve ever seen. And remember, darling, it’s all in the details. They’ve added little flourishes like glowing lanterns and fairy-light arches that add such a touch of magic! Tickets are flying off the shelves, so you need to snap yours up quickly!

Next stop: the Royal Ballet School’s summer showcase! This year’s theme is A Midsummer Night’s Dream and you can already tell they're putting their own exciting spin on this classic tale. The whole school has been getting involved, even the little ones in their adorable bunny costumes, and you’ll see their star students showing off all the fantastic techniques they’ve been mastering all year long. Spoiler alert: there’s a dazzling contemporary dance section inspired by the enchanting moonlight. It’s bound to be utterly spellbinding, trust me. Tip: If you’re on the lookout for future dance superstars, keep an eye on the younger dancers; some real gems in the making there!

Ready to switch up the dance style? Well, lucky for you, the Kensington Community Centre has a whole summer programme filled with workshops. They've got everything from contemporary and jazz to belly dancing and flamenco! Imagine, you could try something new and completely outside of your comfort zone while getting fit at the same time! I know I’m dying to try flamenco— it looks so fiery and powerful! The centre also offers beginners' classes for anyone who’s thinking of taking the plunge. And my absolute favourite: They're also doing themed nights - think Moulin Rouge cocktails and French ballet in one evening! This place is a real haven for dance enthusiasts!

Don’t forget your dancewear! I’ve got the most amazing new addition to my wardrobe - a tutu from the lovely “Dance Delights” boutique right here in Kensington. I fell for their latest line – it’s inspired by Victorian gardens with blooms and butterflies, all in shades of pink, of course! And darling, the sparkle... you need to see it! And the best part? They even do matching ballet bags, because everyone knows your ballerina look is never truly complete without one!

And lastly, let's indulge our love of all things theatrical: I'm off to La Bohème at the Holland Park Opera this month! Now, I know this isn't ballet, but trust me, the performance is nothing short of dazzling. You've got live opera singing in the most beautiful outdoor setting. I highly recommend it! Plus, who doesn’t love a romantic night under the stars?

I can't wait to see what dance surprises Kensington has in store!

Keep an eye out for my next blog post, where I’ll be sharing some fun ideas for summer dance-themed picnics and parties! And be sure to tag me on Instagram @emmaballetlove with your pics! Let’s make this summer one to remember!
