Emma here, your resident tutu enthusiast and purveyor of all things pink and pirouette-worthy. The summer sun is finally here, and so is a whirlwind of exciting ballet news right here in Leicester! Buckle up, because this is gonna be a whirlwind of twirls, tutus, and all the good vibes that come with them.
Let's Dance, Leicester!
Firstly, it's a total dream to see the local dance scene just bursting with creativity this season. There's something for every taste bud! From the graceful swans of Swan Lake at the newly renovated De Montfort Hall (I had to wear my gorgeous lilac tutu with the feathery boa - what better way to channel the grace of Odette?), to the playful charm of The Nutcracker at the Curve Theatre (hello, candy-themed costumes and that utterly joyful atmosphere!), there's magic in the air.
And don’t even get me started on the Festival of Dance, which is happening right now in Jubilee Square! Imagine a stage right in the heart of the city, surrounded by vibrant dancers in every style imaginable – pure bliss! There's an amazing showcase of the local talent, a truly inspiring celebration of all things ballet, contemporary, and everything in between. The best part? It's totally free, darling! So, grab your picnic blankets, a pink picnic basket full of treats (we can’t resist the pinkest strawberries!), and come join the party!
Stepping Up The Game!
Speaking of celebrations, have you heard about the new ballet school that just opened up near Victoria Park? So exciting! It’s run by a young, ambitious dancer, Amelia (who I must say, totally nails that sophisticated chignon look), and they’re focusing on fun, engaging classes, even for the tiniest ballerinas and boys. And get this - they have a gorgeous new pink and silver studio space, so glamorous! I’m already booking my class - who wants to join me?
From Stage to Screen!
Want to channel your inner ballerina without actually taking a class? Well, grab your popcorn because there’s a ballet movie screening this month at the Phoenix Cinema! You guys know my love for Black Swan (I still dream about those tutus!), and The Red Shoes – pure cinematic magic. It’s an oldie but a goodie, The Turning Point, and I’m already getting nostalgic just thinking about it! Plus, there's a post-screening Q&A with the cinema manager – talk about a golden opportunity to chat ballet and everything fabulous!
