Leith’s Summer of Dance: It’s Tutu-tally Time to Shine!

Hey lovelies! It’s Emma here, back with your latest fix of tutu-licious news, and it’s hot, hot, hot in Leith’s ballet world this summer! Forget about the sunburnt arms and suncream-stained pointe shoes – the real sizzling is happening inside the studios and on stage, with enough exciting new stuff to keep even the most seasoned ballerina's feet tapping.

Firstly, the news that sent a pink glitterstorm through the community – the fabulous Leith Ballet School is opening up their brand new summer programme! Think ballet barre by the beach, en pointe workshops in stunning, seaside studios, and even a chance to learn the tutti-est ballet routines inspired by our own beautiful Edinburgh! Forget stuffy studios - it’s all about embracing the sunshine and sea breezes while getting those pirouettes perfected. The launch event promised everything from delicious iced tea to the most amazing pastel-pink cupcakes – trust me, I even managed to sneak in a sneaky little taste-test of one. The tutus are on fleek too, with bright summer colours and flowy fabrics that really bring out that effortless beachy vibe. Just remember your sunscreen!

But hold onto your hair buns, because the fun doesn’t stop there. Leith’s Royal Ballet Academy is having their very own Summer Soirée with a stunning display of choreography and incredible costumes. The theme this year? You guessed it – summer wonderland! Prepare to be blown away by dancers performing a series of intricate routines inspired by the ocean, forests, and all things whimsical. And the best part? Tickets are incredibly affordable! They’ve got some amazing community outreach programmes this summer too, so even if you don’t have a budding ballerina at home, you can still enjoy a taste of their magic!

Talking about amazing, The Leith Theatre is going all out this season. Forget those dusty old stage curtains and faded red velvet – this summer, it's all about glamour and grand entrance! The Leith Theatre Ballet Society are premiering “Ballet Under the Stars”, featuring an enchanting* open-air spectacle* with a mix of classical and contemporary dance. Think breathtaking lighting, dramatic costumes, and stunning aerial choreography – we're talking serious drama queens here. It's going to be the hottest ticket in town (get it? hot… ballet… you get it).

Speaking of hot (and you know I just love this topic), The Dance Studio is introducing a completely new dance style to Leith. Drum roll, please… Flamenco! Forget the usual ballet classes – here’s your chance to tap into your inner fiery dancer, with an intense focus on rhythmic footwork, passionate expressions, and seriously impressive fan routines. The instructors, brought over from Spain specifically for this program, are a force of nature, with years of experience in all things flamenco. If you’re brave enough to join, I promise you, your summers just got a whole lot hotter.

But don’t think all this summery activity means a complete goodbye to traditional ballet. Leith’s Classical Dance Academy is holding its annual showcase at the end of July. It’s the perfect time to witness the incredible talents of the future ballerinas. Be prepared for jaw-dropping skills, gorgeous costumes, and the kind of elegance that makes me yearn for pointe shoes! And while I can’t tell you the actual details, I hear something really special is planned for this year, so mark it in your diaries, darling!

Leith is buzzing with ballet magic, and there’s truly something for everyone – whether you’re a die-hard dance fan, or just want to tap your feet and enjoy the spectacle. The summer season is overflowing with talent and passion, and it’s a reminder that dance truly transcends all ages and abilities. Get your summer wardrobe ready, find your best pink lipstick, and prepare for an unforgettable journey through Leith’s tutu-tastic world of dance.
