With the sun beaming down on us, the beautiful Cornish coast glistening in the distance, and the whispers of the wind brushing my tulle – oh, it's simply a ballerina's dream!
This season's all about bringing that summertime fun to the stage and oh, are we in for a treat. First up, the Plymouth Ballet Theatre is presenting a brand new contemporary ballet called “Coastal Dreams." Can you guess what the theme is? Whispers... seaside bliss, of course! Imagine gorgeous dancers twirling under the sun-kissed skies, flowing like waves in a choreography inspired by the ocean, and showcasing the grace and athleticism of ballet alongside the raw passion of contemporary dance.

And speaking of beautiful, did someone say tutu?! Get ready to be blown away by the stunning costumes, each piece hand-crafted by the amazingly talented team at The Wardrobe. There’s a playful hint of pastel pink, flowing fabric, and hints of sparkling sequins that echo the glittering water and the bright summer flowers. Oh, the inspiration!!
As if the theatre wasn’t enough excitement, there's also the Summer Ballet Festival, taking place at the historic Elizabethan Gardens! This festival promises an absolute whirlwind of ballet-related activities! We're talking workshops, picnics, and a dance-off – yes, a dance-off!
There's going to be a special "Tutu Twirl" competition where you can show off your dance moves (and your amazing outfits!) and even learn some new routines from the professionals. There’s nothing like summer sunshine to encourage a bit of friendly rivalry. Let’s just say I'm sharpening my fouettés and hoping for a trophy to add to my ballet-themed home decor!
This event is perfect for all ages – you don't even need to be a seasoned dancer. Anyone can join in the fun, especially those who enjoy an excuse to embrace all things ballet! The atmosphere will be filled with smiles, music, and just a hint of sweat (just from all the amazing dancing!).
