Rochdale's Tutu News: Summer's Sparkling Pointe Shoes

Hey, ballerinas! It's Emma here, back with another dose of tutu news from the vibrant dance scene of Rochdale. As the sun beams down, my favourite colour - pink! - is practically glowing across the city, and so too is our local ballet scene.

So grab your water bottles, lace up those pointe shoes, and get ready to prance into a summer of sparkling dance news.

From Stage to Street:

Remember that gorgeous 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' performance at the Rochdale Town Hall back in spring? It was positively dreamy, and the buzz hasn't died down! You wouldn't believe the amazing street ballet workshops popping up. Just last week, I saw a group of dancers effortlessly glide across the cobblestones in the town square - totally fabulous! You can find the schedule for upcoming workshops at the Rochdale Arts Centre website.

A Touch of "La La Land" at The Dance Studio:

The buzz word this summer is "contemporary" - and The Dance Studio has got it in spades. They've just launched their "La La Land" themed classes. Imagine - a fusion of lyrical dance, ballet, and jazzy movements set to the beautiful soundtrack of the movie. You’ll be channeling Mia and Sebastian before you know it!

"Beyond the Pointe Shoe" Fashion Trends:

It wouldn't be a summer fashion update without talking tutus. But hold on! Think outside the traditional pink fluffy cloud. This summer, it's all about a "beyond the pointe shoe" aesthetic. Bold colours are popping up, alongside sleek, modern designs. Imagine black leotards with glittering embellishments, paired with sleek black tulle skirts, a nod to the ballet world, yet with a chic urban feel. Think "street ballet". I even spotted some amazing crocheted tulle creations at The Emporium, a fantastic little independent shop on Drake Street.

Spotlight on Rochdale Youth Ballet:

Let's give a massive round of applause to Rochdale Youth Ballet! Their recent "Alice in Wonderland" performance at The Touchstones was nothing short of spectacular. They've earned their wings, these dancers, and I'm incredibly proud of them! Keep an eye out for their next production – rumour has it they’re working on a very secret, magical, and colourful ballet for the festive season. Shhh, you heard it from me first!

*So what are you waiting for, my darling ballerinas? *

Get out there, unleash your inner swan (or mischievous pixie!) Grab a glass of pink lemonade (just a bit of bubbly in there doesn’t hurt!) and enjoy this delightful dance summer in Rochdale!
