It’s truly a dream to be in Rome during the summer. The city becomes a canvas for creativity. The streets are buzzing with energy and every day brings a new discovery, like a hidden gem waiting to be uncovered. I find myself captivated by the architecture and history of this amazing place and it's this passion that finds its way into the ballet scene. The beauty and grace of the dance echoes the charm and majesty of the city itself.
A Night at the Opera… On Pointe!
Last night, I was absolutely mesmerised at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. A new production of 'Swan Lake' debuted with a twist! Set against a backdrop of Roman ruins and the shimmering light of the Tiber, this production reimagines the classic ballet with modern touches that had me completely entranced. And let's not forget the costumes! The iconic white swan costumes were reimagined with a stunning palette of dusty rose and blush, and the black swan costume? Absolutely breathtaking! It was a bold but stunning choice that captured the elegance of the swan, yet was undeniably modern in its style.
A Dance Paradise Under the Starry Skies
Who needs a posh theatre when you’ve got the glorious Roman sky? This weekend I caught a breathtaking performance by the Roma Ballet company, under the twinkling stars in Piazza Navona. I had a total "Tutu dreams under Roman Skies" moment! It was a captivating mix of modern choreography and classical elements set to a vibrant soundtrack. They seamlessly incorporated the ancient Roman architecture into the performance, weaving tales through graceful movements, their silhouettes perfectly outlined against the night sky. This innovative performance definitely deserves a standing ovation, and an applause for this breathtaking setting too!
Fashion-Forward Tutus in the City of Style
Of course, no summer in Rome is complete without indulging in a spot of shopping. It’s been an absolute pleasure spotting dancers twirling through the streets, sporting the latest trends in ballet fashion. I particularly love the new range of tutu skirts with colourful summery fabrics – imagine a flowing pink and orange chiffon skirt paired with a simple white leotard, all against the background of a sunny Roman afternoon!
