It's June, which means it's Pride Month! And let me tell you, here in Ashington, we're celebrating with style! 💖🌈✨ You might be wondering, "Ashington? Really?" Well, let me tell you, even our small town has got big love and big heart, and I'm here to show you exactly how we're putting our pride on full display!
Now, I'm not just any blogger, I'm Emma, a full-time ballet dancer, and I'm a little obsessed with tutus (I mean, who isn't?!). My style? You could say it's a little…extra. Think big bows, glitter, and yes, you guessed it - loads of pink. And this month? It's all about celebrating our love, our pride, and showing the world what a fabulously inclusive place Ashington truly is!
So, what's a "Tutu Tuesday", you ask? It's my brainchild, a weekly tradition that's been taking our town by storm! The rules are simple: grab your best tutu, whether it's a sparkly professional one, a cheeky DIY creation, or a good ol' fashioned Christmas party classic. Pair it with anything your heart desires (sparkly pants? Check! Rainbow t-shirt? Yes, please!) and get ready to strut your stuff! We've had dancers of all ages joining in, kids showing off their twirls with glee, and even a couple of dads sporting tutus for their daughters! It's heartwarming, it's hilarious, and most importantly, it's about embracing individuality and celebrating diversity.
But "Tutu Tuesday" isn't just about the tutus (though let's be honest, they're amazing!). It's about coming together as a community, celebrating everything that makes Ashington so special. We've got events happening all throughout June, from disco nights at the local pub to workshops for children exploring gender identity, art exhibitions celebrating LGBTQ+ artists, and even a giant rainbow picnic in the park.
We've had some incredible local businesses get involved. My favourite shop, "The Sewing Corner", even organised a special tutu-making workshop for kids! The creativity and passion poured into every detail, it was just lovely to see everyone get involved. We're also incredibly lucky to have amazing businesses supporting our events with donations and even sponsoring a beautiful mural for Pride Month, featuring an epic rainbow mural on the town's most popular wall! Talk about a statement!
Our "Tutu Tuesday" has been getting attention outside of Ashington, too! We've been featured on the local news, and even caught the eye of the national LGBT+ media. The thing is, we’re just getting started! This year's Pride month has already been so much bigger and bolder than previous years.
Now, this isn’t just a feel-good, party-in-the-street type of thing. There’s a serious message behind all the glitter and twirling! We are shining a light on the continued struggles of LGBTQ+ individuals. It's a moment to celebrate how far we've come but also acknowledge that there's still a long way to go. We’re all fighting for equal rights, for a future where love, acceptance, and freedom reign. And for that future, we will continue to stand strong and fight for justice, and to make our voices heard – and we’re doing it with some fabulous tutus!
This year's theme is "The Power of Community," and there's no better place to feel it than right here in Ashington. We're a town of strong characters, diverse individuals, and people who truly care about each other. We are loud, we are proud, and we are dancing our way into a brighter future.
