June Pride Month in a Pink Tutu in Bath

Bath's Got the Beat: A Tutu-ful Pride Month

Hey everyone! Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood tutu enthusiast, back with another fabulously flamboyant blog post. June is upon us, the sun is shining, and that can only mean one thing - it’s Pride Month!

And let me tell you, this year, Bath is truly embracing the spirit of the rainbow with an explosion of colour, music, and love. The streets are alive with dazzling displays, vibrant costumes, and of course, a sprinkle of tutu magic, courtesy of yours truly.

As you all know, I live and breathe for tutus. It’s not just a garment, it’s a statement, an attitude, a way of life! So, when I heard about the fabulous line-up of Pride events in Bath this year, I knew I had to bring the twirl factor to the streets. It’s like they say: "The bigger the tutu, the better the party." And who needs a better excuse for a dazzling pink number than a celebration of love and self-expression?

Let’s take a spin through the highlights of Pride Month in Bath so far!

Glitter, Disco and Dazzling Delights

It all started with the opening party at the Bath Royal Crescent. The iconic Georgian terraces were lit up in the colours of the rainbow, and a wave of disco energy pulsed through the crowd. Imagine the sight: a glittering sea of glitter, feather boas, and of course, an array of tutus, including this fabulous pink confection that made heads turn!

It was the perfect blend of heritage and inclusivity. We were celebrating not just pride, but also the beauty of Bath's rich history. There was something truly special about witnessing such a celebration in this beautiful city.

The weekend’s highlight was undoubtedly the Parade through the heart of Bath. The energy was palpable, a mix of euphoria, pride, and excitement. Everyone, from seasoned veterans to first-timers, was radiating happiness and a powerful sense of community. It was incredible to see families, friends, and colleagues celebrating side-by-side.

Of course, no parade is complete without a generous dose of colourful spectacle. As the parade snaked its way down Milsom Street, it was a riot of sound and colour, with giant inflatable rainbows, rainbow flags flapping in the wind, and music pumping from the fabulous float that the local LGBTQ+ youth group had built.

But the stars of the show, in my humble opinion, were the performers themselves. We had singers belting out classic anthems, dancers strutting their stuff with an infectious joy, and drummers bringing the energy to a fever pitch. And it wouldn’t be Pride in Bath without a dash of fabulous drag. The local queens came out in force, rocking the catwalk with their stunning costumes and undeniable talent. I was absolutely floored!

The Art of Inclusivity

Of course, Pride is more than just parades and parties. It’s about celebrating and recognizing all aspects of the LGBTQ+ community and the many contributions it has made to society.

That’s why I was so impressed by the "Art of Inclusivity" exhibition held at the Holburne Museum. This groundbreaking showcase featured artworks by talented LGBTQ+ artists from across the region, celebrating diverse voices, and creating dialogue on themes of self-expression and belonging.

One particular piece resonated with me: a series of striking portraits titled “The Spectrum of Self.” Each painting captured a unique individual’s journey, with their expressions, clothes, and backdrops reflecting their individual stories of finding themselves. It was incredibly moving to see so many diverse expressions of self on display.

The exhibition was a perfect example of how art can transcend words and challenge perceptions, reminding us that love knows no boundaries.

Spreading the Tutu-Love

So, how can you get involved in the fun? There are countless opportunities to join the Pride movement this month. Head to the Bath Pride website, grab your rainbow gear, and join in the celebrations! But if you’re feeling extra brave and adventurous, I urge you to do what I did: rock a tutu and embrace the fun. You don’t need a fancy occasion; every day can be a “#tututuesday” or a "#tutupride” moment.

And speaking of fun, what better way to celebrate Pride than by attending one of Bath’s many fabulous Pride-themed events? The list goes on, but here are a few highlights to get your toes tapping:

  • "Pride on the Terrace": A rooftop party with spectacular views over Bath, featuring live DJs, dancing, and endless drinks. Just remember to apply plenty of SPF!
  • "Love is Love” Themed Tea Dance: Don your most elegant attire and join us for a classic tea dance with a modern twist, celebrating love, acceptance, and all things fabulous.
  • "Rainbow Brunch” : Start the day with delicious food and good company in a beautifully decorated cafĂ© setting, complete with vibrant cocktails and delightful conversation.

No matter what you choose, I encourage you to embrace the spirit of Pride and spread the love, compassion, and inclusivity that this special month stands for. And remember, whether you’re strutting your stuff in a sparkly outfit, or just beaming with joy, your presence is a powerful statement of solidarity and acceptance. So let’s paint the town with a vibrant rainbow of positivity!

Stay fabulous, and remember: life’s a dance floor, so twirl your way to a brighter, bolder future.
