Droitwich Does Disco: A Tutu-tastic Pride Month Celebration!
By Emma, Your Friendly Neighbourhood Tutu Enthusiast
Hey lovelies! Itâs Emma, your resident dance diva and proud LGBTQ+ ally, coming at you live from Droitwich Spa! I know what youâre thinking â âDroitwich? Whatâs going on in that quaint little town?â Well, let me tell you, babes, this past June, Droitwich was buzzing like a beehive! You see, it was Pride Month, and Droitwich, believe it or not, went all out with the glitter and the rainbows.
It all started with a whisper â âLet's have a Pride event in Droitwich!â. I remember the exact moment, hun, sitting at the tea shop by the canal, brainstorming ideas for a new blog post. Itâs a story for another time, but the point is, I saw a real hunger in the community for inclusivity and visibility, something Droitwich hadnât fully embraced before. And when I say fully embraced, I mean fully embracing â it was time to shed those boring old button-down shirts and put on some sequins!
Of course, I knew I had to be involved. So, naturally, I dug out my trusty pink tutu. Why, you ask? Well, honey, what better way to celebrate a community bursting with individuality than with the most iconic symbol of fabulousness? (Well, apart from sequins and a fabulous disco beat!) So, yeah, itâs fair to say, the âDroitwich Does Discoâ motto was practically screaming for attention â and attention, darlings, it got!
It was a glorious afternoon filled with rainbow colours, infectious disco beats, and smiles so wide they could rival the Worcestershire salt pans. Think community spirit, infectious energy, and enough glitter to rival a disco ball! Imagine â a kaleidoscope of colour exploding from every corner. Flags fluttering in the breeze, beaming faces bathed in the warm summer sun, and yes, you guessed it, the ubiquitous tutu! You couldnât turn a corner without being swept away by the wave of euphoria, the sheer joy radiating from every person, young and old. It was truly a beautiful sight to behold, one that will forever be etched in my memory.
From the vibrant market stalls where rainbow crafts and delicious goodies were sold to the hilarious drag show, there was something for everyone, and it wasnât just about the entertainment, though it definitely played a big part. It was about community. A safe space for people to be themselves, a space to feel accepted and celebrated, where âdifferentâ meant unique, incredible, and beautifully diverse. Thatâs what Droitwich Does Disco was all about.
And you know what, I wasn't the only one who felt the magic! People came together in the most unexpected ways, chatting, dancing, and simply enjoying the camaraderie. It was truly a celebration of what it means to be human â unique, vibrant, and beautiful in all our imperfections. There wasnât a single sour face in sight, and it felt truly liberating. A moment to shed all pretences, to be ourselves, to express our own version of beautiful â and for some, perhaps a first taste of this open, loving embrace.
Even the local press caught on! I think the local paper even had a front-page photo of a tutu-clad dance routine (myself included!), and let me tell you, that was a proud moment, hun! You see, this is what we are all about â celebrating diversity, embracing inclusivity, and doing it with style! I mean, seriously, is there a better outfit for celebrating life and joy than a tutu? (Hint: the answer is a resounding âNOâ).
What was the best part, you ask? I mean, there were so many incredible moments, like the impromptu flash mob to "I Will Survive" or the sheer joy of watching families holding hands as they danced together, their hearts beating to the same vibrant rhythm. It was these moments, small and grand, that made Droitwich Does Disco truly special.
I know it's been a while since this happened, and even though Iâm still feeling the glitter dust settling on my skin, let me tell you â this wasnât just a one-off event, hun! Droitwich has finally embraced its vibrant spirit, and it's a spirit weâre gonna see shining bright year after year! So, mark your calendars â Pride Month in Droitwich is an event not to be missed!
Donât forget, weâre a community, letâs keep it real, letâs keep it positive! Letâs be fabulous! #DroitwichDoesDisco #Pride #LGBTQ+ #Tutuesday #TutuPride
And, if youâre feeling adventurous, perhaps consider adding a dash of pink to your wardrobe. Trust me, itâll be the most fabulous thing you do all year! â¤ď¸â¨
