Great Yarmouth Gets Glittery: June Pride in a Pink Tutu
Hey, darlings! Emma here, back with another sparkly update, this time straight from the heart of the East Coast’s most colourful celebration! That’s right, Great Yarmouth was awash in rainbow flags and joyous energy as June Pride took over the seaside town. And who better to soak it all in than your favourite tutu-loving, disco-dancing blogger? 😉
This year, I decided to go all out, embracing the "more is more" philosophy. I mean, what’s Pride without a statement piece? And for me, a statement piece always involves tulle. You can’t go wrong with a pink tutu. Let’s be honest, pink is a classic for a reason, it’s bold and celebratory. It shouts "Look at me! I’m happy and I'm here!" – and that’s exactly the message we want to be sending at Pride.
As soon as I stepped onto the seafront, I was hit by a wave of excitement. Music pulsed through the air, vibrant stalls lined the streets, and laughter echoed in every direction. It was a joyous sensory overload, exactly the kind of atmosphere I thrive in. And of course, everyone looked incredible! Glittery eyeshadow, rainbow hair streaks, bold statement jewellery, feather boas... The creative expression was truly inspiring.
My favourite part was seeing people embracing their individuality and sharing their stories. I saw couples hand in hand, families beaming, and groups of friends just enjoying each other’s company. It reminded me why Pride is so important. It's a reminder that everyone deserves to feel accepted and celebrated for who they are, no matter their gender identity, sexual orientation, or expression.
And who better to highlight the joyful vibes than the dazzling array of local performers! The main stage was buzzing with talent. From drag queens in their fabulous glory to soulful singers, from dance groups busting moves to live bands getting everyone pumped, the stage was a constant spectacle of entertainment. And of course, I got my groove on with everyone! Honestly, a good disco track in a pink tutu can work wonders on your confidence.
Beyond the stage, there were interactive art installations, food trucks offering a rainbow of deliciousness, and information stalls dedicated to various LGBTQ+ charities and initiatives. It was amazing to see so many organisations promoting positive change, raising awareness, and connecting with the local community.
One particularly touching stall featured a wall covered in sticky notes, each one holding a personal story about LGBTQ+ experience in Great Yarmouth. It was powerful and poignant, a testament to the fact that we are not alone in our journey, that we have a strong community, and that there’s still so much work to be done to ensure equality for all.
But of course, Pride isn't just about parades and parties – it's about celebrating how far we’ve come and acknowledging that there’s still a long way to go. While progress has been made, there's still a fight for equality, particularly for our transgender siblings and communities facing marginalization and discrimination.
That’s why seeing the young faces at Pride – the children being raised with love and acceptance, the teenagers feeling confident in their skin – gives me hope for the future. This generation is more open-minded and compassionate than ever, and they are leading the way towards a truly inclusive society.
Of course, I didn’t want to miss a single opportunity to twirl and twirl some more. With the music, the crowds, and the spirit of acceptance, there was no better setting to show off a good twirl than Great Yarmouth Pride! And as usual, I captured some amazing moments with my camera, a kaleidoscope of colourful energy. Don't forget to check out my blog for even more highlights and my fabulous fashion finds.
As the day came to a close, and the last rays of sunshine bathed the seafront in a warm glow, I felt a deep sense of satisfaction and belonging. It wasn't just about the glitter, the music, and the fantastic costumes. It was about feeling seen, feeling heard, and knowing that I was part of a community that embraces all forms of love and expression.
This is why I'll always wear a pink tutu to Pride. It's my little way of adding sparkle, celebrating life, and reminding everyone that we’re all part of one beautiful, vibrant rainbow.
So, next year, join me in Great Yarmouth! Be loud, be proud, and don't be afraid to show off your fabulousness! We'll all be there, embracing diversity and celebrating what it truly means to be human.
Stay fabulous, darlings!
