Itâs June! The sun is shining, the birds are singing (and by âbirdsâ, I obviously mean the fabulous, feather-boa-clad queens strutting down Highburyâs bustling streets), and the air is thick with glitter, rainbows, and, most importantly, pink! Yes, you guessed it: itâs Pride Month, and in this pink-loving ballerina's humble opinion, thereâs no better way to celebrate than with a tutu.
Tutu Tuesday: A term coined by my dear friend (and fellow glitter-obsessed enthusiast) Olivia, Tutu Tuesday is all about spreading joy and celebrating the wonderful diversity of our beautiful LGBTQ+ community. We take the tradition of the classic pink ballet tutu, a symbol of elegance and grace, and infuse it with a kaleidoscope of colour, attitude, and the boundless spirit of Pride.
Now, I know what youâre thinking: "Emma, tutus aren't exactly mainstream fashion!" And to that, I say, who cares?! If you feel fabulous in a sparkly pink tutu, rocking a disco-ball necklace and a feather boa bigger than a small car, then go for it! Weâre all about breaking down barriers and embracing individuality â and tutus are a fantastic way to do just that!
My Tutu Look: This year, Iâm ditching the traditional ballerina bun for a cascade of glittery, rainbow-streaked braids, a sparkly pink crop top, and a tulle skirt that wouldnât be out of place on a disco ball! Itâs loud, it's proud, and it screams, âHappy Pride, darlings!â
Highbury's Pride Haven: You know, Highbury isnât just about those picturesque Victorian streets and charming cafes â it's a community teeming with warmth and a genuine love for inclusivity. As soon as you step onto Highbury Green, you feel it: the pulsating energy, the vibrant music, the contagious joy! Everyoneâs here to celebrate â young, old, and everything in between. From rainbow-coloured market stalls selling delicious food and artisan crafts to a vibrant parade featuring elaborate floats, drumming groups, and a whole lot of sass, Highbury Green is THE place to be for Pride Month in London!
It's About More Than Just a Dance: This isnât just about fashion, darlings! It's about raising awareness, fighting for equal rights, and standing in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community. Pride is a reminder that everyone deserves the freedom to express themselves, to love who they choose, and to be celebrated for exactly who they are!
So, grab your feather boas, dust off those sparkling accessories, and let's get this party started! Remember, every single person can embrace the spirit of Pride â you don't need to be a ballet dancer to rock a tutu. Whether you're rocking a rainbow pin, a colourful flag, or simply a smile of solidarity, we're all in this together. Hereâs to a joyous and unforgettable Pride Month filled with joy, laughter, and maybe even a few impromptu dance-offs!
