June Pride Month in a Pink Tutu in Huyton

Huyton’s Pink Tutu Pride: A Night of Glitter, Disco and Love

Hey gorgeous babes! It’s Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood tutu-obsessed ballerina and LGBTQ+ ally. I’ve been bouncing around Liverpool all June, soaking up the amazing energy of Pride Month, and let me tell you, it’s been an absolute blast!

This year, though, things got extra fabulous with my personal mission to make Tutu Tuesdays a thing. Every Tuesday in June, I've been rocking my favourite pink tutu - the one with the iridescent sequins that practically screams "disco ball" – and encouraging others to join in! Because, seriously, who doesn’t love a good tulle twirl, right?

Last night, Huyton went pink and proud, and it was absolutely incredible.

As the sun began to set, I took to the Huyton streets, my trusty tutu fluttering with every move. The vibrant colours of Pride flags flapped in the breeze, and the music - disco beats so strong, it almost made me want to twirl right out of my sparkly sandals! It was amazing to see so many people embracing the power of being your authentic self, united by the vibrant, infectious spirit of Pride.

The Huyton community pulled out all the stops for the celebrations. We had delicious rainbow-coloured cupcakes, rainbow cocktails with glittery ice, and a vibrant Pride market bursting with handmade gifts and crafts.

Let's get real – pink is the colour of the moment. Not only is it playful and feminine, but it also sends a strong message: We’re here, we’re fabulous, and we’re not afraid to stand out. It’s all about embracing joy and expressing your individuality with unapologetic confidence, right? And a good twirl can never hurt either. 😉

Here’s a snapshot of the highlights of my evening:

1. Huyton’s First Ever Tutu Parade: It’s not everyday that you see a bunch of tutu-clad individuals parading through town, but let me tell you, it was iconic! From the tiniest of tots in tiny pink tutus to grandmas rocking grandma tutus, it was truly heart-warming. The air was buzzing with joy and excitement as we danced, twirled, and cheered, spreading a message of love, acceptance, and pride for everyone!

2. A Disco Night to Remember: The music kicked into overdrive at the local pub, The Crown. A disco ball pulsed with light, and the crowd went wild. Honestly, even the non-dancing ones were nodding along. And it was pure joy. We laughed, we danced, and we even had a few impromptu Tutu Tuesdays dance-offs. We really pushed the boundaries of what Tutu Tuesdays could be. A couple of the fellas even had a go in sparkly gold tutus and…well, you had to see it. 😉

3. Stories of Hope and Resilience: I loved listening to everyone’s stories throughout the evening, especially from members of the local LGBTQ+ community. Their journey of resilience, courage, and self-acceptance is inspiring. One young woman shared her journey of coming out and finding support within her family and community, and it just resonated. This is the real magic of Pride. We're stronger together!

4. The Power of Togetherness: This is the best bit of all. It wasn't about gay or straight, or transgender or cisgender - it was simply about people, families, and friends coming together to celebrate individuality and inclusivity. Whether you’re sporting a rainbow flag, a glittery tutu, or a simple 'I'm here' sticker, every sign of unity counts! It was an extraordinary evening, bursting with laughter, good music, and beautiful smiles.

Tutu Tuesday Reflections

The evening gave me a chance to reflect on the impact of Pride events in our local community. It showed how far we’ve come, and how much work we still need to do. It's vital to remember that the fight for equality is far from over, and events like Pride offer a space for open conversation and activism. It’s also a platform to celebrate diversity and individuality, and that, my dears, is the ultimate goal.

But beyond activism, it's also about having fun. And boy, did we have fun! From dancing to our hearts’ content, to rocking our tutus with pride, to sharing moments of laughter and love - Huyton’s Tutu Pride was a shining beacon of inclusivity.

The future of Tutu Tuesdays

And let’s be real – who wouldn’t love a sparkly, pink tulle distraction on any day? The tutu wasn't just a playful prop, it was a symbol of self-expression and liberation! The idea of spreading Tutu Tuesdays – not just on Tuesdays, but any day, really – is starting to grow. Maybe you can make it happen where you are, babes! I’m excited to see how Tutu Tuesday spreads its joyful energy.

I can't wait to see what adventures Tutu Tuesdays holds for the future!

Stay sparkly and always stay proud! 💖

Emma xoxo
