June Pride Month in a Pink Tutu in Liverpool

Liverpool: Tutu Pride, Disco Dreams and a Dash of Pink!

Hello, gorgeous souls! It’s Emma here, your resident tutu enthusiast and lover of all things sparkly! This year, June has been an absolute whirlwind, and I’m not just talking about the Liverpool weather, even though that’s been a bit of a rollercoaster, too!

For those of you who haven’t heard, this is the month where we celebrate our fabulous LGBTQ+ community. It’s Pride month, and if there’s one thing I know, it’s that Pride needs pink. And tutus. Oh, and did I mention glitter? Because there needs to be a whole lot of glitter, darling!

Let’s get down to it – this weekend, I decided to take my inner disco diva to the streets of Liverpool for the annual Pride festival. Now, there’s something magical about Liverpool during Pride, and let’s face it, nothing amps up the magic like a fabulous tutu, right? So, I strapped on my bright pink feather boa (can you tell I’m a big fan of the colour pink?), whipped my trusty pink tutu into shape (don’t judge my folding techniques, it's an art, darlings!), and prepared myself for a day filled with good vibes, rainbow flags, and a whole lot of love!

As I strutted down Bold Street, I could feel the energy vibrating in the air, pulsating with the rhythm of life, love, and the undeniable magic of being who you are, unapologetically. It was truly heartwarming to see such a sea of happy faces, united under the rainbow flag – a vibrant, beautiful mosaic of individuality.

I met all kinds of fantastic people: friendly drag queens with personalities bigger than life (and make-up skills that could make any professional envious), couples sharing adorable kissing photos against a backdrop of giant balloons, families holding homemade rainbow flags, and groups of friends dancing to the beats that thumped from every street corner.

I particularly loved seeing young children so uninhibited, throwing their little hands in the air as if they’d discovered a secret rhythm within themselves. Honestly, the energy was infectious! You know, this is what I live for - the sheer joy of being a part of such a positive community.

There’s something so refreshing about watching people let loose and embrace who they are. Honestly, that’s the most beautiful thing you’ll ever see. Forget about catwalk models – it's the way ordinary people own their unique identity, that really blows my mind! It was a visual spectacle unlike any other. Imagine all the colours of a rainbow – a kaleidoscope of colours that reflected in everyone’s eyes.

This isn’t just about the outfits (although let's be real, the costumes were divine, with feathers, sequins, glitter galore – and lots of fabulous headpieces!), It’s about celebrating acceptance, unity and love. We all need a good dose of love, don’t we? Especially in a world that’s so fast-paced and can sometimes feel so unkind.

As the afternoon rolled on, a disco beat called my name. This was it. The stage was set. It was time to let loose and unleash the disco diva inside of me. Honestly, it’s one of my favourite feelings in the whole world, darlings.

A sea of bodies danced to the beat of 70s classics, all those feel-good disco vibes – the iconic ‘I Will Survive’ that never fails to raise your spirits; ‘Stayin’ Alive’, which always gets you moving; ‘Dancing Queen’, that ultimate party anthem. I mean, there’s just something so liberating about a disco ball glittering above you and dancing the night away. Don’t get me wrong – the dancing was…well…let's just say it had that 'Love Island' vibe with a splash of ballet flair, and maybe a hint of 'Strictly Come Dancing'. The sheer joy, the laughter, and the smiles that radiated from every corner of the dance floor – pure bliss.

But Pride is about so much more than glitter and disco balls, isn't it? It's a moment to reflect on the long journey to equality. There were still some disheartening moments - we must keep fighting, standing shoulder-to-shoulder for equality and acceptance.

This year, it felt particularly meaningful for me. As someone who’s danced all her life and lives by the ‘Embrace your inner goddess’ mantra (don't tell my Mum I'm putting it like that!), I’m always encouraging everyone to wear a tutu. Seriously. I’m a strong believer that it unleashes the joy inside each of us. And it doesn’t have to be pink, even though I adore the colour – think blue, orange, purple…you get the picture! Go on, wear it with confidence – let those feathers fly and own that fabulous, colourful identity. Let the glitter sprinkle out and let the joy shine through!

As I danced the night away, the air buzzed with the energy of a hundred disco balls reflecting under a full moon, and my tutu was a beautiful symphony of pink against the glittering backdrop. And it wasn’t just my tutu; everyone in that crowd felt the magic of individuality, of love, and of freedom to simply be. It was an explosion of joy! It’s why I live for these moments – I don't know what they put in the air in Liverpool but it's magical.

So here's to Liverpool Pride and every other Pride around the world. To dancing in pink tutus, letting those disco dreams come alive, and reminding ourselves and each other: You are perfect just as you are. We celebrate your authenticity! #Tututuesday #TutuPride.

Love, Emma xx
