June Pride Month in a Pink Tutu in Northampton

Northampton's Tutu-licious Pride: A Celebration of Colour and Joy

Hello gorgeous! It's Emma here, back with another blog post and guess what? This week it's all about Tutu Pride! Yep, you heard right, my friends! June is here, which means one thing: Pride Month! And what better way to celebrate than to embrace our inner sparkle and twirl with pride?

This year, Northampton’s LGBTQ+ community is getting ready for a whole month of fabulous celebrations. The vibes are electric, and everyone’s getting involved – from colourful street parties to powerful panel discussions. It's all about inclusivity, visibility, and above all, pure, unadulterated joy!

Now, you might be wondering: What’s the link to tutus, you ask? Well, I say tutus are a statement – a symbol of confidence, creativity, and pure self-expression! They’re playful, they’re dramatic, they say “look at me!” and, let’s face it, they just make you feel good! What’s not to love?

This year, I decided to put my tutu-wearing enthusiasm to the test and create my own mini “Tutu Tuesdays” for Pride Month. It’s about wearing your most dazzling tutu, sharing the love on social media, and bringing some joy to your fellow humans.

It all started last Tuesday with my favourite hot pink tulle tutu – a bold statement, yes, but what better way to express my excitement for Northampton’s upcoming Pride march? I even paired it with some killer rainbow platform boots!

The response was phenomenal! Everywhere I went, people were smiling, waving, and even joining in on some spontaneous twirls! The air was filled with good energy and the hashtag #tututuesday quickly took off! It became this wonderful platform for expressing our pride, sharing our personal stories, and embracing our love of twirling, laughter, and a little bit of sparkle!

This week's #tututuesday was a collaboration with some fabulous local businesses, offering discounts on pride-themed merchandise. I partnered with the Rainbowlicious Bakery – known for their outrageously delicious cakes – and organised a “Tutu Tuesdays Tea Party”. We gathered at the bakery for a sweet afternoon of tutu-wearing, rainbow cake-eating, and some truly heartwarming discussions about inclusivity and self-acceptance. The highlight of the afternoon was a heartwarming interview with a local artist, Jamie, whose vibrant art perfectly captured the joy and resilience of our community.

There’s just something about wearing a tutu that brings out the playful child in all of us! It’s a way to embrace silliness, release your inner confidence, and show the world that you are your own unique, wonderful self – just as you are.

But, hey, the real magic of Tutu Tuesdays comes from all of you! People from all walks of life, embracing the colour, the joy, and the message of celebrating our differences and celebrating being ourselves!

From sharing pictures in their favourite tutus to celebrating personal milestones – every share, every comment, every post contributed to a collective expression of self-love and pride. It’s been beautiful to see people opening up, sharing stories, and building connections with strangers who simply love to twirl and express themselves!

This week’s Tutu Tuesday theme is about the power of community and support. I’ll be spending the day with Northampton’s LGBTQ+ youth group, participating in a dance workshop with them – showing them that expressing yourself is a superpower and tutus are our tools to claim our strength and shine our brightest!

Join me for the next few Tutu Tuesdays and let’s keep this spirit of celebration and self-expression going! It's a perfect chance to wear your most colourful outfit, twirl with abandon, and tell the world that we are here, we are proud, and we are fabulous!

Now, I need to run, I have a giant rainbow-coloured pom-pom to make and an even more elaborate tutu design to sketch! Keep the #tututuesday hashtag going, share your own tutu-tastic adventures and most importantly – stay tuned for Northampton’s biggest and most colourful Pride march yet!

Peace, love, and twirling, Emma xx
