A Tutu For Everyone: Dancing Through June Pride in Brighton
Hey beautiful people!
It's Emma here, and you know what day it is… #tututuesday! And you know what month it is? PRIDE MONTH! So let’s combine our love of pink, tutus and celebrating diversity and bring on the ultimate dance party!
As a Brighton-based ballet dancer, my heart beats a little faster when the sun comes out in June. Why? Well, it's not just the warmth that fills the air, but the feeling of joy, acceptance and colourful celebrations for Pride Month. We've always got some sunshine on the south coast, but in June, the light feels extra vibrant, a little like the swirling rainbow colours on my new sparkly tutu, if you ask me!
This year, Brighton Pride has gone absolutely ballistic. The energy is infectious! Walking through town, the sea breeze carries the beat of disco anthems, and people are adorned with colourful flags and shimmering face paint, transforming the city into a gigantic, joyous, inclusive parade.
You wouldn't believe the transformation that's happening on the Brighton Pier! Normally a bastion of salty air and seaside treats, it's now a glitter-dusted, multicoloured masterpiece. Rainbow-hued lighting reflects in the sea, casting kaleidoscopic beams that shimmer on the dancing crowd. A sea of brightly-dressed revellers are swirling under a massive Pride banner - a glorious testament to the beauty of unity and celebration.
And what would Pride Month be without a touch of tulle? This is where I, Emma, take centre stage. My new, hot-pink tutu is basically an invitation for pure joy. It's not just a fashion statement, but a symbol of the love and acceptance we celebrate throughout June. The delicate layers of tulle are as delicate and light as a butterfly wing, and as vibrant and confident as the colours of the rainbow. They spin around me, catching the sunlight like a burst of joyful confetti, ready to embrace every soul, from the most ardent drag queen to the most shy first-time visitor at the parade. It's a testament to the fact that everyone is unique and fabulous in their own way, and should feel celebrated for it.
As a dancer, the tutu has always been more than a costume; it's an empowering symbol. It transforms us into storytellers, dancers and dreamers, giving us a chance to express ourselves on stage, just like the Pride flags wave proudly and joyously at the festival.
Now, I know some of you might be saying, “But Emma, I'm not a dancer! How can I celebrate with a tutu?" Fear not! This is 2024, darling, where embracing individuality is the ultimate fashion statement! Grab a friend, borrow a tutu from a local dance shop, get those fabulous sparkly heels on, and get ready to shake your booty under the summer sky! Your attitude is your own, just like the individual flags of the LGBT+ community! It doesn't matter if you're a veteran performer or a tutu-wearing newcomer, just show your support, celebrate pride, and most importantly, have fun!
Don't just stand there! Get down and celebrate diversity, self-expression and all the wonders of our glorious LGBTQ+ community! And remember, darling, a little sparkle always goes a long way. #tututuesday #tutupride #BrightonPride
Emma’s Outfit Spotlight:
Okay, time to talk wardrobe! For today's #tututuesday, I decided to go with an ensemble that says bold, colourful, and undeniably fabulous! Here’s the lowdown on my must-have items:
1. The Tutu: We’re talking pink, glitter, and plenty of tulle. I'm loving this year's ‘Aurora Pink’ tutu. It’s light and airy, allowing for easy twirling and showing off my fabulous legwork! Plus, the pink sparkles catch the sun perfectly, adding a touch of magic to any outfit.
2. The Top: It’s all about showing off your style, right? This crop top with a glittery rainbow design is both comfy and super stylish. It lets me dance without any restriction and matches the tutu’s sparkly vibe perfectly!
3. Shoes: This is where it gets super fun! Forget boring flats! I’m wearing these adorable glittery rainbow-coloured platform sneakers! They’re a statement piece for my look and comfy enough for all-day dancing. They're super cute with this outfit, and the platforms give me that extra bit of height.
4. Accessories: Because, darling, it's not Pride Month without some accessories! I’ve gone all out with my rainbow-coloured bangles, layered necklaces with glittery rainbow charms, and a sparkling crown. You’ve gotta go bold! This is your chance to make a statement, be confident, and express your individuality through your wardrobe!
5. Hair and Makeup: Remember, less is more! To highlight the colours in the tutu and make-up, I kept my hair simple - a slick ponytail to keep it out of my face while I'm dancing, topped off with a sparkling pink ribbon! My makeup is bold and glamorous, using pink tones with a shimmering highlight for that touch of magic. And yes, a touch of glittery face paint wouldn't hurt!
Let's celebrate, dance, love, and be fabulously proud! #BrightonPride #tutupride #tututuesday #diversity #celebration
