June Pride Month in a Pink Tutu in Sutton in Ashfield

Sutton in Ashfield Shimmers in Pink for Pride: A Tutu-tastic Celebration

Hello lovelies! It's Emma here, back with another dose of glitter and glam. Today's post is going to be a whirlwind of rainbows, disco balls, andā€¦ tutus? Yes, you read that right, tutus! You see, June is Pride Month, and I've always believed there's no better way to celebrate the joyous colours of the LGBTQ+ community than by channeling your inner ballerina! And what better place to do that than in my own beloved Sutton in Ashfield?

This year, Sutton in Ashfield has gone full-on fabulous for Pride. The air buzzed with excitement, not just from the glorious summer sunshine but also from the vibrant spirit of inclusion that filled the streets. Everywhere you looked, there were rainbows, glitter, and more pink than you could shake a sequined stick at (and let me tell you, Iā€™ve seen some seriously sequined sticks in my day, being a ballet dancer and all).

I had planned my Pride look weeks in advance: a hot pink tutu, custom-made with a holographic layer that caught the light like a disco ball on overdrive. It felt like the perfect way to showcase my own love for the community and my personal passion for all things sparkly. My sparkly platform heels complemented the tutu, adding a bit of extra "oomph" to my steps, and my glitter-filled makeup palette allowed me to create a rainbow on my face that was practically its own pride parade.

As I sashayed through the throng of smiling faces, I felt like a sparkly, twirling beacon of joy and acceptance. I was embraced with open arms, literally, as people enthusiastically took photos of my tutu, some even wanting a spin! It was heartwarming to see children, teens, and adults all joining hands in a celebration of diversity and love.

The day was bursting with colour and energy, thanks to the amazing Pride Parade, where a sea of rainbow flags and banners swirled through the streets. You could hear the pounding rhythm of music pumping from every corner, and everyone was singing and dancing along. The mood was pure electric - an intoxicating blend of disco anthems and high-fives that pulsed through every heart.

We even had our very own Drag Queen takeover, with some of the most talented and hilarious drag queens from the local area entertaining the crowds with their captivating performances. They brought a much-needed touch of wit and whimsy to the day, leaving everyone roaring with laughter and in awe of their fierce fashion and stunning talent.

The main stage was where the heart of the festivities resided. A whirlwind of musical performances unfolded throughout the day, with everything from local rock bands to soul-stirring singers. I especially enjoyed a group of kids, dressed in a kaleidoscope of colours, performing their rendition of ā€œRainbow Connectionā€ ā€“ it truly melted my heart!

Now, what's Pride without food stalls and funfair rides? Thankfully, Sutton in Ashfield didnā€™t disappoint! Delicious scents from international cuisines filled the air, offering a smorgasbord of flavours to tantalize our taste buds. I couldnā€™t resist the juicy burgers and fries (who can resist, really?), washing them down with a refreshing glass of pink lemonade.

But for me, the most magical moment came towards the end of the day. It was time for the ā€˜Pride Lightshow,ā€™ a stunning display of lights projected onto the town hall building. This breathtaking spectacle saw images of swirling rainbows, symbolic LGBT+ flags, and heartfelt messages of love and acceptance wash over the town. It was a beautiful reminder of how far weā€™ve come, and the hopeful vision of a future where love conquers all.

So, as the last strains of the disco beat faded into the air and the night descended, leaving behind a sea of smiling faces, I knew Iā€™d experienced a truly unique and meaningful celebration of love, unity, and self-acceptance. It was a day that left me filled with joy, hope, and glitter - just how Pride should be.
