June Pride Month in a Pink Tutu in Taunton

Taunton Twirls for Pride in a Pink Tutu!

By Emma, Dancing Queen

Okay, darlings, it's your girl Emma here, ready to dish the deets on a day that made my heart do a full pirouette! You know me, always rocking the pinkest tutus, and let's be honest, this June was no exception. But this time, it wasn't just for a fancy performance – I was in Taunton, celebrating Pride in a kaleidoscope of colours and rainbows!

Imagine this: the sun is shining, the music is pumping out disco classics, and the whole town is buzzing with a joyous, positive energy. I'm talking glitter, rainbows, and enough smiles to light up a whole parade! It was absolutely electric. And me, well, I was shimmering in a glorious pink tulle creation that wouldn't have been out of place on a Parisian stage, let alone Taunton!

The crowd was so vibrant and diverse, from young to old, everyone was soaking up the atmosphere and the message of acceptance. You could feel the sense of belonging, the solidarity, and it made me feel so happy and proud to be a part of this celebration.

From the parade itself, where everyone from school kids to seasoned drag queens danced their hearts out, to the community events bursting with colour and energy, Taunton Pride was all about inclusivity and celebrating love in all its beautiful forms.

Honestly, my darling readers, the parade was such a whirlwind of energy and positivity. There were LGBTQ+ community groups marching with pride, local businesses proudly displaying their rainbow flags, and the most dazzling floats I’ve ever seen. One even featured a group of drag queens performing a synchronised routine in glittering leotards – talk about dazzling! It really reminded me why I'm so passionate about celebrating this amazing community.

Of course, being a ballet dancer at heart, I couldn't resist getting into the groove. I danced along with everyone else, my pink tutu swishing in the warm summer breeze, feeling like the happiest butterfly in the whole darn field. Seeing the sheer joy and acceptance in everyone's faces, from kids waving rainbow flags to adults holding hands with their partners, made my heart swell.

And, you know me, darling, I always have to be fashionable even during Pride! So, let's talk about the fashion! Now, if there's one thing I love more than my ballet shoes, it's a fabulous outfit. And Pride just oozes style. Think bold colours, sparkly sequins, and a whole lot of rainbows. It’s all about embracing your individuality, dressing to impress, and sending a strong message of inclusivity with every sequin.

The people of Taunton did not disappoint in the fashion department! I saw everything from head-to-toe rainbows, custom-made LGBTQ+ flags emblazoned on t-shirts, and even a group of dancers wearing shimmering rainbow-themed tutus that would make even the most seasoned ballerina blush. It was truly a sartorial masterpiece, darling.

The day was truly filled with beautiful, powerful speeches. A local LGBTQ+ activist spoke about the importance of fighting for equality, and a group of young people spoke about the importance of representation and creating a world where everyone feels safe and loved. These powerful words reminded me why this fight is so important.

Now, I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t get into the detail, right? I can’t leave out mentioning the food stalls, the live music, the arts and crafts, and the friendly faces all around! The entire town came alive, creating an inclusive haven of celebration and togetherness.

As the day ended, and the music started to fade, I couldn't help but feel incredibly touched by the energy and positivity of Taunton Pride. It was truly an inspiring experience, and a stark reminder that love, acceptance, and equality are more powerful than hate.

So, darling, remember this: whether you’re strutting your stuff in a sparkly rainbow costume or simply wearing a pride flag pin, celebrate your individuality and stand with the LGBTQ+ community. Every small step, every little gesture of support, matters.

And remember, life's a stage, darling, and you’re the star!
