June Pride Month in a Pink Tutu in Wickford

Wickford Goes Pink for Pride: A Tutu-licious Celebration!

By Emma, the Dancing Diva

Hey everyone! Emma here, back with another post – but this one's extra special! It's Pride Month, and that means rainbows, glitter, and most importantly, a whole lot of celebrating. This year, I've got a fabulous pink tutu ready for Wickford’s pride celebrations.

As you all know, I'm a bit obsessed with tutus (who isn't, really?), and what better way to celebrate pride than in a fabulous, frilly, pink, beacon of positivity? The colour pink might be associated with sweetness, but it's also a colour that represents rebellion, self-expression, and a refusal to be confined by societal norms – all perfect themes for pride.

So, where to start? Wickford is a vibrant little town, full of history, charming cafes, and most importantly, a big, open-hearted community. This year, Wickford's pride celebrations have been bigger and brighter than ever before. There were family-friendly events all week, including the amazing 'Pride Picnic' in the park, a rainbow parade full of laughter and smiles, and an epic disco night at The Wickford Arms. And let me tell you, I certainly wasn't going to miss out on all that fun!

Getting ready for the big day

On the day itself, I was practically bouncing off the walls. It’s such a great feeling knowing that everyone around me is celebrating diversity and acceptance. As always, it took me ages to get ready for the big event. It's all about the details, you know? It wouldn’t be Pride Month without a bit of glitter, so my face, hair and eyelids were generously adorned with shimmery rainbow gems and glittery makeup. And of course, there was the tutu.

A tutu that makes a statement

My choice for Wickford’s pride was a fluffy, full-bodied pink tulle tutu that looked like it was made for dancing the night away. The waistband was sparkling with tiny iridescent sequins, adding an extra touch of magic to the whole ensemble. For footwear, I decided to wear my silver glitter sandals – something that’s guaranteed to sparkle as much as the occasion. It really wouldn’t have been the same if I wasn’t decked out head-to-toe in sparkles.

Ready to party in the sunshine

As soon as I reached the town square, I could feel the excitement bubbling in the air. People from all over Wickford had come together, decked out in rainbow colours, waving rainbow flags and singing along to pop hits played from the loudspeakers. I felt such a huge wave of joy washing over me, feeling like I’d stumbled into a technicolour wonderland. The whole event had such a heartwarming feel – full of people with big smiles and an open heart. It really felt like everyone in the community had come together to celebrate being proud of who they are and being part of something so powerful.

Rainbow flags and rainbow love

There were families with kids in rainbow-themed outfits, older couples walking hand-in-hand, groups of friends laughing and chatting, and everyone had that amazing spirit of community in the air. We sang our hearts out, danced like crazy, and felt the immense power of togetherness and acceptance.

One thing that stood out to me was the fact that so many of the young people were expressing their pride so boldly and enthusiastically, dancing without any self-consciousness or fear. Seeing the confidence and joy in their eyes was really inspiring. They were a vibrant reminder of the positive progress we are making in our world – celebrating acceptance, diversity and being proud of who you are, without prejudice and discrimination.

The best pride disco night ever!

As the day drifted into dusk, the energy in Wickford only seemed to grow. The main attraction was the huge disco event held in The Wickford Arms, which was bursting at the seams. It was filled with sparkling glitter balls and rainbow decorations, and it felt like we were in a technicolour disco scene from one of my favourite films. There was such a joyful vibe! The crowd was filled with happy faces and ecstatic dancing – a whole sea of dancing humans moving to the beat.

I spent the next few hours swaying to my favourite 70s disco classics and bumping and grinding with the other pride goers – all in the name of joy, love and a big ol' celebration of being exactly who you are. The DJ, who looked as if they’d stepped straight out of Studio 54, kept the music pumping, making everyone lose themselves in the music and the dancing.

Time to say farewell to Wickford's Pride

As the night wound down and the lights were dimmed, I found myself exhausted but truly energised from the incredible day I’d had. Everyone around me had smiles radiating from their faces, as though their souls were filled with sunshine and laughter. The spirit of love and inclusivity lingered in the air long after the music had stopped. It’s the magic of Pride that I love – everyone feels embraced, included, and celebrated for who they are.

If there’s one thing I took away from this fabulous Wickford Pride experience, it was the overwhelming feeling of belonging and connection that came from a shared experience. Seeing a whole community come together to celebrate the beauty of individuality was truly inspirational and incredibly uplifting.

Get ready for the rest of pride month!

So, let’s get those rainbow colours out, wear those sparkly tutus, and keep celebrating all through June. It’s all about spreading joy and reminding each other that we are stronger and brighter together.

I can’t wait to see you all next month, in a fab new pink tutu of course!

Stay colourful and keep the love alive!

Love, Emma
