Wolverhampton's Tutu Pride: A Pink Paradise!
By Emma, The Pink Tutu Ballerina
Hey lovelies!
Wolverhampton, you were rocking last week! Seriously, it felt like the entire city was dressed in rainbows and glitter as we celebrated Pride Month in a way that was utterly, gloriously, extra. And guess what? I was there in my pink tutu. Because, letâs face it, there's no better way to strut your stuff and spread love than with a good twirl!
This wasn't just any Pride event; it was Wolverhamptonâs Tutu Pride, a dazzling showcase of colour, inclusivity, and all things pink! Iâve been dreaming of a citywide celebration with tutus for years, and to see this dream come true felt⌠well, like a dream! From the early afternoon, people flooded the city centre, a sea of glitter, sequins, and yes, you guessed it, tutus.
You know how I love a good outfit. For the big day, I went all out, naturally. Imagine a soft pink tutu, shimmering under the sun, paired with a dazzling crop top and a cloud of glittery hairspray. To finish off the look? A pair of neon pink knee-high boots with chunky gold chains for a little edge!
The Vibe was Electric
As I entered the festival area, it was clear the atmosphere was electric. DJs pumped out disco anthems, remixes of classic Pride bangers and some truly fabulous indie pop that had everyone swaying their hips. The air buzzed with excitement and joy, everyone radiating a sense of belonging. We were one big, colourful family, celebrating love in its purest form.
The highlight for me was undoubtedly the Tutu Runway. This magnificent creation had been set up in the heart of the festival, under a giant, glittery arch. From tiny toddlers in DIY tutus to grandmas in full-fledged tulle creations, everyone sashayed down the runway with a confident smile and a twinkle in their eyes.
I nearly fainted when I saw a whole group of lads rocking vibrant tutus, dancing with effortless swagger and a âdon't you dare judge usâ attitude. And let's not forget the "Dancing Queens," the lovely group of women rocking out to Donna Summer in dazzling outfits, who gave us a fierce yet graceful showcase.
But it wasnât just the performances that made Tutu Pride special. There was a whole host of other activities to enjoy too:
Food and Drink galore:
- Think delicious rainbow cake, cupcakes sprinkled with glitter, vegan pizzas with colourful toppings and of course, pink lemonade!
Creative Workshops:
- We had everything from tutu-making workshops (with endless ribbons and sequins!) to LGBTQ+ themed pottery classes.
And so much more:
- We also had stalls showcasing local LGBT+ artists, activists, and businesses, giving everyone a chance to engage and support the amazing talent in Wolverhampton.
A Celebration of All Kinds of Love
I spoke to so many incredible people throughout the day. Young, old, families, individuals, the community came together, each story unique yet united in their shared sense of love and belonging.
It's this sense of community that I cherish most about Tutu Pride. The event wasnât just a celebration of the LGBTQ+ community; it was a celebration of love, diversity, and the beauty of self-expression in all its forms. It showed the world that Wolverhampton is a place that embraces all individuals, regardless of who they love or who they are.
To my fellow LGBTQ+ friends
Whether you were at Tutu Pride or you celebrated in your own special way, thank you. Youâre an inspiration to us all.
To those who support the LGBTQ+ community
You are vital. You make all the difference, showing your allies you are standing with us every step of the way.
To Wolverhampton!
You showed the world that we're more than a city, we're a force of positivity, kindness and joy! You made my dream come true.
See you at next yearâs Tutu Pride!
