2024 Summer Ballet News in Leith

My dears, the air is abuzz with the joyful sounds of spring! The world awakens with its vibrant colours, and Leith, oh my Leith, is positively blooming with a flourish of excitement that would rival the most exquisite ballet choreography. 🌸

As a humble yet dedicated dance enthusiast (some may even say * aficionado*), I couldn't be more delighted to share a few whispers of all the wondrous things swirling about our cherished local dance scene! From dainty tutus to soaring leaps, we've a plethora of pirouettes waiting to enthral.

This month sees the opening of The Lilac Pointe, a brand new dance studio just a skip and a hop from the charming docks. Oh, isn’t that a beautiful name, don't you agree? Imagine the soft, enchanting shades of purple evoking grace and poise, a perfect embodiment of our favourite pastime, isn't it? I am quite smitten by its elegance.

I am particularly excited about the classes being offered at The Lilac Pointe. Their schedule brims with delightful options, from traditional ballet for those wishing to perfect their arabesques to classes focusing on modern styles for the contemporary soul.

I must tell you about the delightful little teashop they’ve nestled into the studio's corner. I’ve been informed they serve the most dainty sandwiches and the sweetest of teas, a true haven for any ballerina with a refined palette after a good class. Don't tell my choreographer, but I might be slightly tempted to make a stop on my way to rehearsals... 🤭

For the truly inspired, The Leith Dance Academy has a host of captivating workshops scheduled. There’s the “Spring Flower Ballet” class, designed to celebrate the bloom of the season, which promises beautiful choreography, and if that isn't enough to tempt you, there's also a “Musical Theatre for Ballet Dancers" course for the budding triple threats! What an exciting opportunity to discover the artistry of a musical theatre stage – my own imagination is pirouetting with anticipation!

You haven’t experienced ballet magic until you’ve been swept away by the Leith Theatre’s Spring Gala! I'm positively tickled pink about it and don’t be surprised to find me there, front and centre, in a fabulous frock of my own choosing!

The gala will feature a medley of ballets and performances from various dance schools around Leith. With so much talent under one roof, I'm expecting an evening filled with exquisite grace, breathtaking artistry and of course, some stunning costumes that will set our hearts aflutter! Prepare to be swept off your feet by a whirlwind of prima ballerinas and charming danseur.
