Upminster: A Flutter of Tutus in the Spring Air! 🩰

Good afternoon, my lovelies! It's Emma here, and oh my, what a glorious spring we're having! The air is thick with the scent of blossom, the sun is dappling through the leaves, and in my humble opinion, it's the perfect time for a little ballet inspiration.

Now, Upminster is no stranger to the graceful arts, you know. In fact, we’ve had our fair share of talented dancers grace our stage since the Victorian era! I bet you’ve never heard of this, but there was a travelling ballet troupe that toured Upminster back in the 1890s. Imagine - ballerinas, clad in swirling tulle and billowing satin, twirling amidst gaslights and laughter! Sadly, there isn’t much surviving evidence of their performances - I even scoured the local archives! It’s truly a shame as their influence was felt on the area. Maybe I can make a little pilgrimage down to the local theatre and see what gems I can discover amongst their records. Maybe we can unearth another Upminster ballet star, just waiting for the spotlight! ✨

But let's return to the here and now! What's been shaking up the Upminster dance scene? The air is buzzing with excitement as the season’s blossoming talent begins to shine, like a dewdrop in the morning sun! The Upminster School of Dance is absolutely flourishing. They’ve just welcomed a brand new, exciting Ballet Director to their ranks – I’ve heard whispers that she has a flair for choreography as stunning as a sunrise. There's even talk of a special Spring Blossom themed performance to celebrate the season – pink tulle and sunshine smiles galore, my dears! Can you picture it? Imagine a stage adorned with pink-and-white peonies, ballerinas like graceful butterflies in blush-tinted tutus, all under the gentle glow of spotlights, swirling to the music of Vivaldi's “Spring.” Pure, utter perfection, wouldn’t you say?

The Upminster Dance Academy is also not to be outdone. They’ve just opened up a new class called ‘Ballet for the Everyday’. Apparently it’s tailored to those who crave a bit of grace in their life without being a ‘professional’ dancer – imagine being able to waltz around your living room with a new found confidence, perhaps in one of my fabulous pink polka-dot tulle tutus from my online shop, perhaps? I shall certainly have to see if it has found an audience!

But beyond the hallowed halls of dance schools, a new wave of artistry is rising! Have you seen the newly formed Upminster Ballet Collective? This is an inspiring bunch of passionate young dancers who are breathing new life into local theatre! They have taken to the stage in a beautiful spring ballet entitled "First Bloom," which celebrates the vibrancy of new life. They’ve just announced their next performance at the Upminster Library - a ‘ballet in the books’ kind of performance, they are calling it – all about Shakespeare's works, what a charming concept!

It’s fantastic to see the dedication, talent, and spirit flourishing in Upminster. They’re not only gracing our stage with their ballet, but also working to uplift and inspire the local community – spreading the joy and grace of dance to everyone!

And speaking of joy and grace, let's talk about the fashion. With the coming of spring, a change is in the air! We are saying goodbye to the heavier velvets and silks and hello to lighter fabrics, delicate lace and beautiful colors like the spring flowers that bloom!

Personally, I am living for the new crop of tutus from the French designer Enchantment – I'm absolutely smitten with their "Spring Rhapsody" collection, with it's delicate tulle in shades of pale pink and lilac – the perfect homage to this wonderful season. Of course, I have been sharing all my favorite spring fashion picks on my blog, “The Tutu Tales”. It’s full of fashion inspiration for you ladies (and gentlemen!) so don't be afraid to take a peek! With Love and Light,

Emma 💖
