Tutu and Ballet News

Darling, have you seen the divine tutus this season? Oh, the layers of tulle! They’re absolutely heavenly. And, let’s not forget the heavenly creatures who grace the stage in them, our ballerinas! My favourite ballerina, a true beauty with her stunning emerald green eyes, Alexandra Petrovna, was just divine in her tutu last night at the Royal Opera House. Let me tell you, darlings, she took my breath away. It wasn’t just the tutu though, though the intricate beading was breathtaking - her technique was flawless. So poised and graceful, she glided across the stage as if weightless. Simply divine, simply exquisite!

Tonight though, I’m going to the ballet for a special reason - the premiere of the new work, ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, by the Royal Ballet! Darling, I just adore the Royal Ballet. They’re always so modern and experimental, always pushing the boundaries of dance.

Now, the piece I saw at the Royal Opera House last night was so traditional, all beautiful tutus and beautiful ladies (though they looked so gorgeous I admit I might have been a little envious). But darling, don't be a fool, this ballet by the Royal Ballet is so very different. They're bringing in all sorts of new moves and different techniques! I even hear tell of a bit of break dancing, though how this goes down on the stage, and especially if they'll be using any tutus for that part of the performance, I have no idea! You know me though, darling, I’ll be reporting on it for you all tomorrow!

Let me give you a little background on this work, ‘A Midsummer Night's Dream’, if you will:

It is, as you probably already know, based on Shakespeare's play and will feature, of course, some beautiful Shakespearean costumes with tutus in place where it is felt appropriate - though the production is promising some wonderfully modern moves. Darling, imagine! I’m quite excited for this. The ballet company has apparently hired a world-renowned set designer to create some magical backdrops, inspired by the enchanting, moonlit forest of Shakespeare’s story. How romantic! And the choreographer, darling, has taken the familiar story of Oberon and Titania, Puck and all, and, as the company assures us, 'twisted' it into a story about the power of love and imagination in today's world!

Well darling, my day tomorrow is fully planned. First up, a fabulous power yoga class with my best friend at the health studio. That will be a great workout for my legs and abs to ensure that my dance moves later tonight are up to par. We shall then grab a divine brunch with some cocktails and gossip about last night’s performance - it is the ultimate, essential ingredient for a girl's weekend, darling - a long chat over divine cocktails about dance and life and a few, tiny, delicious gossip-fuelled nibbles! After that I must pop home and change, into something chic and glamorous for tonight’s premier - but not so glamorous that I look overdressed for what will be quite an experimental dance production, oh darling! Then we shall go straight to the opera house! After all the ballet and the brunch there must be a fantastically divine cocktail lounge for me to review, I simply can’t get enough, you see. Oh darling! You can't imagine how exciting it's going to be, how fantastic! All those lovely ladies dancing around, and you've no idea how good that makes me feel.

The rest of my weekend is yet to be planned but, as it is a long weekend, the world is truly our oyster! Perhaps, depending on my level of fatigue after all of the aforementioned shenanigans, we could go see the fabulous, new exhibition of Impressionist paintings at the Royal Academy. This is guaranteed to be very stylish darling. Or we might even do a bit of shopping. Or perhaps go see one of the shows opening up tonight - if they are fabulous enough I might just write a review of them all - darling, there are so many options!

You know me, darling, I will, of course, be filling you in with every bit of gossip from my adventures later!
