Tutu and Ballet News

Oh darling, it’s positively divine! The ballet world has been abuzz this week with the most wonderful news: **The Royal Ballet’s** **Giselle**, one of the most iconic works in the entire repertoire, is returning to the stage in London next month, and my, what a treat it will be. The sheer romanticism, the dramatic twists, and of course, those ethereal tutus - how divine!

This timeless masterpiece, with its poignant tale of betrayal and forgiveness, always transports me. We all adore **Alice Coppendale’s** delicate yet fierce performance as Giselle. And to see **Sergei Polunin**, who has that most heavenly grace, as the alluring Albrecht - oh darling, it’s enough to give one palpitations!

Now, you must know, **Giselle** is one of my absolute favourites for many reasons:

  • Those glorious white tutus, wispy and light as air - a dancer's dream!
  • The exquisite, heart-wrenching choreography: I simply adore the dramatic sequence where Giselle loses her mind, the delicate artistry of the wilis, those ethereal spirits - it’s a true dance of sorrow. You’ll find yourself captivated!
  • Adolphe Adam’s achingly beautiful music - so dramatic, so romantic! It moves you to the core.
  • And then, the romantic narrative. This beautiful story of Giselle’s heartbreak and her tragic, enchanting fate simply takes your breath away. Such tragic romance, but oh so enchanting!

But what really elevates the whole affair? Why darling, the exquisite tutus! Each dancer adorned in those fluffy, billowing skirts. They are like clouds in motion, pure artistry in every twirl and leap. So breathtaking! Even the male dancers in their sleek tights are looking ever so dashing.

Speaking of tutus, darling, this new production of **Giselle** has a particular design twist I simply must tell you about! They’ve infused these iconic tutus with hints of delicate, ethereal colour - a whisper of azure or blush. This modern touch injects an elegant sophistication and beautifully compliments the drama of the performance.

Now, you simply must catch this iconic production of **Giselle**. It’s on at the Royal Opera House from July. A dazzling spectacle - the dancers, the costumes, the exquisite score, every detail has been flawlessly crafted to sweep you away. Oh, darling, I must admit I am simply ecstatic!
