Tutu and Ballet News

Oh darling, it's just divine! The world of ballet is bubbling with excitement this week, with a whole host of dazzling events on the calendar. It’s simply a dream come true to be a ballet aficionado, and it all started for me at the tender age of five, when I first donned a sparkly tutu. I'll never forget the feeling - the twirls, the leaps, the sheer magic! It's a feeling I’m sure every ballerina knows, the exhilaration of that first, fluttering twirl. It's a moment that defines our lives, that's where we feel the power of dance pulsate through our veins. I can still feel the tingle as I slipped into a new tutu - it’s the kind of thrill only a true ballerina understands. It was just last week that I tried on my old tutu for the first time in years. It fit like a glove - that perfect blend of nostalgia and new possibilities. And oh, how my heart fluttered! It is simply such a special thing. I’ve heard whispers of an intriguing production opening on 11th July 1997 at London’s famed Royal Opera House. A re-imagination of 'Swan Lake', no less! My little birdies tell me it's going to be absolutely breathtaking, a real must-see! The director is said to be putting a modern spin on the classic, with stunning new costumes designed by the talented and very chic, Ms. Francesca Di Bello. I have it on good authority, she's used the finest silk and feathers for the new swan tutus - just the stuff of dreams, darling! Can't you just picture them? A flurry of ethereal, feminine grace - simply irresistible! Speaking of captivating tutus, one simply has to admire the legacy of the traditional tutu, a timeless beauty, a delicate whisper of lace and silk, capturing the grace and spirit of a ballerina's dream. I love the fact they can range from the ethereal tulle cloud of a Romantic tutu to the fuller, structured grandeur of the Classical. I am sure the swans in this production will be a perfect mix of ethereal elegance and modern glamour, and let's be honest - that’s a winning formula.

The London dance scene is bubbling with activity this summer, and it is no surprise as there’s a huge influx of dance lovers descending upon the capital - some of us are even dusting off our tutus and giving our arabesques a practice!

For those with a passion for all things ballet, there are even a number of workshops happening at the London Dance Academy - they offer everything from basic barre work to advanced contemporary choreography - they truly have it all! I simply have to book myself a spot! The timing is perfect for a dance refresh, to fine-tune my fouetté.

For any serious dance fan, my suggestion would be to make your way down to the Dancewear Emporium this weekend. They are launching a brand new range of tutus – so dreamy and beautifully crafted – you'll simply adore the latest styles and designs. They really have it all darling – a rainbow of colours and shades for the ultimate ballerina fashion. It’s the perfect place for that little tutu indulgence you deserve. Don’t tell anyone I told you – but they are even holding an exclusive sale for members, and rumour has it that you can pick up a beautiful hand-made tutu at a fraction of its price!

From a delightful, romantic tutu, to the fierce grace of the swans, to the captivating charm of modern choreography, this week truly has it all for a ballerina like myself! And who knows, maybe we'll even see some graceful ballerinas on the London streets, putting a twirl in their step, and leaving a sprinkle of sparkle wherever they go! Oh darling, what a delightful thought.
