Tutu and Ballet News

Darling, what a delightful day for ballet, wouldn't you agree? The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and even the pavements seem to be swirling underfoot, just begging to be pirouetted upon. Today, August 20th 1997, is a day to celebrate the sheer beauty and elegance of this art form.

It's been a phenomenal year for ballet already! Imagine, we just saw the magnificent Royal Ballet's rendition of Swan Lake, a spectacle that sent shivers down my spine! And who could forget that breathtaking "Giselle," all floating tulle and heartbreak? We've had such wonderful performances this summer and yet it feels like ballet just keeps getting more exquisite!

Now, darling, I simply must tell you about the most darling little shop I found today, tucked away on a side street in Chelsea, like a little jewel box of a secret! It’s called “The Tutu Treasury” and, oh my dear, you’ve simply got to see it!

You’d be utterly amazed at how much history these little skirts hold, you see, they're not just about looking pretty. Each tutu, with its layers of delicate fabric, whispers tales of leaps, bourrees and graceful arabesques. I feel an unimaginable connection to past ballerinas as I imagine them wearing those tutus on stage.

Oh! Did I mention? You wouldn’t believe what I saw while I was browsing through the treasures at The Tutu Treasury. They had a truly extraordinary, vintage collection:

  • An enchanting Victorian tutu from the late 1800s! Just imagine, this little number may have graced the stage during a time when ballet was truly entering a new era. Think frilly layers of pale pink silk, with just a hint of sparkle to give it that magical glow. I couldn’t believe the craftsmanship – each layer was so meticulously stitched, almost like it was meant to be worn by an angel herself.
  • A showstopping white tutu that a legendary dancer named Sylvie Guillem might have worn in the 1990s! A modern masterpiece. The layers were structured to give a sculpted, almost architectural shape, making it truly stand out on the stage, a silhouette that must have had the audience spellbound.

Speaking of "The Tutu Treasury", I couldn't help but have a little fantasy in the fitting room, surrounded by the most breathtaking tutus imaginable. And yes, dear, you know how much I love the classic tutu, all that soft tulle swirling around me, making me feel as light as a feather and oh so ethereal. But then there’s this newfound thrill, seeing the tutu as a powerful fashion statement. The perfect blend of grace and a modern twist.

Think about it: a beautiful tulle tutu teamed with a crisp white blouse and sleek stilettos – perfectly feminine, yet oh so modern and effortlessly chic. Or, imagine the drama of a black tutu worn over a fitted, dark silk dress for an evening out! That’s pure magic! It wouldn’t be a surprise if this year's most fashionable ladies embraced the tutu for its power to add an irresistible touch of femininity to their wardrobe!

Let's raise our champagne flutes and make a toast: to ballet, tutus, and to the endless beauty that awaits on stage!
