Tutu and Ballet News

Oh, darling, gather 'round! It's your favourite fashionista, back with another scoop hotter than a dancer's undergarment in a summer heatwave. This time, my dears, we're dipping our toes into the frothy waters of... **ballet!** (Yes, I know, quite the change from last week's exposé on the *avant garde* fur trim in dog collars, but hear me out.)

Let's be honest, darling, the tutu has been stuck in a fashion rut. Imagine if you spent all day, every day, in the same frock, day in and day out, no matter what! Well, that's life for our tutu-clad darlings, the ballerinas.

But, thank the heavens, on this momentous **10th of May 1999,** the world of dance has decided to shake things up a bit! (Well, *slightly*.) You see, they're letting the ballet dancers try *different colours!* Shocking! Groundbreaking! Just think, it's not all pink anymore! We could see a burst of magenta, a dash of emerald, a pop of sunshine yellow...oh, the possibilities!

The idea was brought about by young, up-and-coming ballet superstar, Felicity Finch. (She of the incredible triple pirouettes and, rumour has it, an impressive collection of designer frocks.) Felicity felt it was "time for a change", and she wants "ballet to be accessible to all, whatever their favourite shade".

Personally, darling, I think it's *fabulous*! A bit more zing and excitement on the stage wouldn't go amiss, now would it? Imagine the possibilities for matching the tutu colours with the sets! I've always dreamed of seeing Swan Lake with a flock of cygnets dressed in shimmering turquoise. *Perfection*, wouldn't you agree?

But it hasn't all been smooth sailing, darling. Some traditionalists have been, well, *shocked* (Honestly, some people have never seen a new shade of pink!), crying foul over this "revolution" (it is all quite exciting though, don't you think?)

For example, grumpy old Sir Gilbert Snoremore, the Director of the Royal Ballet, was heard to mutter, "What is this rainbow nonsense? A ballerina in orange? Absolutely barbaric! The public will simply not tolerate it!" (Actually, darling, I have heard from quite a few theatre owners and patrons who have requested tickets to *any* performance featuring "orange tutus", so maybe Gilbert Snoremore doesn't speak for everyone.)

Then there's Mrs. Priscilla Puffball, President of the Society of Delicate Ballet Fans (which is probably a real society, darling. My spies have seen a lovely little shop tucked away in Notting Hill, full of ballet tutus...I might pop in myself and find something special.) Anyway, darling, she declared it "unworthy of a ballet performance." (My sources report, Mrs. Puffball was also seen sporting a hat with more feathers than a tropical rainforest...one simply *can't* argue with a feathered-hat-wearing fashion queen!)

The debate has raged across the water cooler, the newspapers, the tearooms...well, *everywhere*! (Actually, I hear a great deal of conversation around the hot water kettle in my kitchen.) It's been *the* fashion topic of the day, and as always, I'm on hand to give you my exclusive insider perspective!

So, what does the future hold, darling? Will it be a ballet stage ablaze with all the colours of the rainbow, a kaleidoscope of tutus, or will the good old pink reign supreme? Well, who can say for certain! But darling, one thing's for sure: we are at the cusp of something spectacular, something fashion-forward, and, oh, so delightfully **daring**! (Perhaps we shall all pop to a ballet performance and be the *first* to witness the shocking *new* colours of the dance world. Oh darling, I can't wait to wear my latest shoes with the fabulous matching handbag...)

This Week's Fashion Do's & Don'ts:
  • Do consider adding a dash of colour to your ensemble. Life's too short to be dull!
  • Don't, whatever you do, don't wear a hat with too many feathers...well, unless you're going to a *very* special party.
  • Do try some interesting ballet classes. Maybe pink isn't the only shade for your tutu, darling, *maybe it's lime green!* (The look might suit your skin tone, but please do try this with some professional help!)
  • Don't worry if you feel out of your depth with all the colour! I'm always on hand with fashion tips! (And I also know of some really lovely milliners...just so you know...and the ones who make shoes are amazing...)
