Tutu and Ballet News

Darling, gather round! Let's have a chinwag about a truly divine day: **27th May 1999!** The world was positively buzzing, and not just because of that rather embarrassing Eurovision song contest! (Who remembers "Take Me to Your Heart"?). No, dearies, it was because the ballet world, well, *that world*, was aflutter with excitement, anticipation, and just a *dash* of, well, tulle.

You see, the world premiere of the absolutely fabulous *Tutu de la Vie*, a contemporary ballet masterpiece choreographed by the sensational Mr. Andre Dupont, was set to grace the hallowed halls of the Royal Opera House, and darling, you couldn't find a more prestigious place to wear a tutu, let me tell you!

Now, this *Tutu de la Vie* was not just any ballet. It was a radical reinterpretation of life, love, and the eternal pursuit of that *perfect* pliรฉ. But let's face it, it wouldn't be the *same* without the star of the show - the tutu! This one, my dears, was a work of art in itself, an explosion of pastel hues and glittering sequins that made even the dullest of us dream of pirouetteing down the high street!

Now, it wouldn't be a proper, *fabulous* ballet opening without a touch of, shall we say, **drama**. You see, darling, this *Tutu de la Vie* was designed by the flamboyant Mr. Claude Fontaine, the only designer who could take a piece of humble fabric and turn it into a dream! He designed no fewer than seven *individual* tutus for the show's star ballerina, Miss Penelope Darling - each representing a different emotion or *phase* in the ballet.

It's reported, in all the excitement of backstage, there was a rather unfortunate, albeit *hilarious* incident when Miss Darling tripped, attempting to change out of her "Anguish" tutu and into her "Euphoria" one. Well, the tutu simply refused to cooperate, leading to a spectacular tangle of tulle and feathers that could rival a Renaissance court ball gone *wild*.

But don't worry dears, all was sorted in the nick of time, and Miss Darling was out on stage with her "Euphoria" tutu looking *divine*, and not a single feather out of place!

Here's a little something to *titillate* your inner dance fan - a quick overview of some of the fabulous tutus featured in the ballet:

  • The "Joy" tutu was, quite literally, a riot of colour: shades of cerulean, chartreuse, and coral. Oh, and don't forget the sparkles! It was enough to make your heart dance just *looking* at it.
  • Then there was the "Sorrow" tutu. Now, this one was quite different. It was all about subtle shades of grey, a touch of midnight blue, and just the right amount of mourning-black tulle. It looked like a cloud, darling, but a beautifully *tragic* one.
  • "Courage" was a little bit fierce. Lots of black sequins and red, a bit of *fierce* netting. But don't think for a moment this one didn't make Miss Darling *smoulder*!
  • And then, oh, darling, then we have the "Hope" tutu. Made from layers upon layers of the softest white silk, this tutu was ethereal, it's what dreams are made of, just beautiful.
  • Now, there was talk that *Tutu de la Vie* would be brought back for another run in the coming year, but let's be real, sometimes these things get swept under the rug - as with that rather disappointing Eurovision song! I for one, darling, am just hoping they do. For all its drama and, well, *tulle*, it was a night for the ages, the very definition of fabulous. And we all know that's what we're *really* after!
