Tutu and Ballet News

Darling, you wouldn’t believe the scene at the Royal Opera House last night. The entire city seemed to be in a complete tizzy over the annual *Tutu-licious* competition. It's not *just* about the tutus, darling, though let’s face it, they do hold a very special place in our hearts, but this competition is the pinnacle of fashion, artistry, and a celebration of the beauty of dance itself. It's a truly spectacular event, you know.

Now, we've all seen our fair share of tutus - from the grand romantic ones to the cheeky little ones that barely qualify as clothing - but darling, this year was truly something special. There were tutus made from recycled newspapers (very *green*, you know?), tutus covered in sparkly sweets (delicious!), tutus with feathers that made the dancers look like peacocks, tutus that were entirely made of flowers, tutus that resembled giant cakes, even tutus covered in emojis. Yes, emojis. It was truly *breathtaking*.

But as much as we loved those delightful tutus, we're going to be perfectly honest here, some of the creations, darling, well, they really made us question whether ballet really needed a new season of *Project Runway*. A couple of these dancers must have gone into some very dodgy haberdashery to source some of their "material". And, honestly, one particular design looked suspiciously like a pair of discarded curtains draped over an ironing board - which, let's be honest, was not flattering on anyone!

I’m so used to the classics, darling, like the swan lake and the sugar plum fairy - you know, tutus that exude grace, fluidity, and perhaps just a hint of ethereal wonder - so when these slightly “out there” designs came waltzing down the runway I could not stop giggling.

One highlight, darling, was the "Tutu de la Lune" , a dazzling masterpiece in shimmering moonlight silk that made its wearer look like she was stepping out of a romantic fairytale - and the "Tutu of Thorns" which, darling, was so edgy with it’s gothic black look and a fringe that literally did brush the floor as the dancer performed - made my heart go pitter-patter for sure.

Anyway, darlings, despite a few creative missteps - some of which will likely be featured in a soon-to-be-viral ballet meme collection on the internet - we can always rely on this competition to keep the dance community in stitches, quite literally - and remind us why tutus will always have a special place in our wardrobes - or in my case our wardrobe dreams.
