Well, darlings, the summer of '99 is certainly heating up! And I don't just mean the weather, I mean the tutú - the tutú scene, that is. Because let me tell you, after that rather lukewarm showing at the Royal Opera House last month, the world of ballet has finally brought the tutú - the tutú fire! And today's the day, July the 31st, for all the tutú-tastic shenanigans to be revealed!
As we all know, ballet's been facing some fierce competition. The dance world's getting ever so… expressive. From contemporary and street to even interpretive breakdancing, ballet’s been struggling to maintain its glamorous crown. But this little black (or pink, or blush, or whatever gorgeous shade the latest tutú designer dreams up!) swan has a fight in her! This tutú is back, and this tutú is fiercer than ever.
And who do we have to thank for this grand comeback? The most daring and glamorous, of course. Our favourite little rebels, the Ballet Blitz! This group, this collective, this storm of fabulousity… they've completely tutú - d up the whole tutú world, baby.
Let's delve a little deeper, shall we? Ballet Blitz, with their flamboyant and innovative use of feathers, sequins and silk, tutús aren't your grand-mother’s tutu. And I mean that in the very best, tutú - ly way, darlings! Think less classical, more cabaret. Think “ Moulin Rouge meets “The Tutú Princess,” think sassy. Think edgy! They're practically pushing the boundaries of ballet while simultaneously doing something else. Something very daring and new…they’re pushing boundaries and making history - while looking absolument stunning, darling, absolutely stunning!
Here are just some of the juicy gossip, my dears, about Ballet Blitz's revolutionary, absolutely brilliant, simply genius performance. Oh, the excitement! Prepare to be tutú-riously wowed.
- They've got their very own, entirely unique, signature tutú. We’re talking feather boas, darling, feathers galore, an tutú in tutú, darling! And guess what? Each tutú is different – a reflection of each dancer's individual personality! Just a little something to inspire each dancer’s unique expression through dance, a chance for each dancer to find their true self in their performance!
- The opening is *completely* tutú - larious. Imagine “Swan Lake” but without the “lake!” It’s a “Swans on the Street" vibe. But the best part? It’s choreographed to a 1970s disco-pop soundtrack - oh yes! The girls even tutú - d themselves in a kaleidoscope of disco-esque colors and glitter. Simply revolutionary!
- The entire set design? A massive, glittery mirror-ball - just like the one that hangs at the peak of Studio 54! Imagine this! Mirror-ball dancing, disco beats and... a ballet tutú. It is revolutionary, and, it is, simply… fabulous.
And it’s not just the look! Let's not forget the ballet. And let's not be precious! It’s no ordinary classical ballet! Ballet Blitz has incorporated some new, avant-garde elements which push boundaries and are utterly electrifying It's all the familiar grand jeté and fouetté grace you expect - only this time, set to a modern-day soundtrack, performed with fearless athleticism, and executed with that cheeky, sassy Ballet Blitz swagger! The dancing, oh darlings, the dancing is beyond fabulous, it’s revolutionary,
If you want a night out full of sass, a chance to witness history in the making, and some seriously mind-blowing ballet moves… head to the Coliseum on Tuesday night and let the tutú-larious spectacle unfold.
I’m dying, darlings, I’m *so* dying to see it! I’ll give you my full review after, I promise! But for now? Get your tickets, and prepare for a night tutú -ly to remember. The world's going tutú - mad. I know I am. I can’t tutú -ly wait.
