Tutu and Ballet News

Tutus Take the Lead in the Tiniest Fashion Trend!

Darlings, I’m positively quivering with excitement as I type this! Today, my friends, is a day for the ages, the day tutus rose to fame, and I, your dear fashion-forward guide, will guide you through this delicious new wave. It all began, quite unexpectedly I might add, at this little café called the ‘Plié Perfection’. This place, believe it or not, was known for its scrumptious croissants and terrible espresso, and absolutely no tutus!

However, all that changed with one magical little accident involving a rather large delivery truck (and quite a bit of French buttercream). It seems that some sweet and rather mischievous little ballet dancers were delivering a particularly decadent batch of treats for their end-of-summer rehearsal, but their van, well, it went 'tutu’ (pardon the pun!) and collided with the most flamboyant collection of tutus I’ve ever seen - right outside the cafe.

Can you imagine the carnage, darlings? Well, of course, not! The sight was, frankly, fabulous. A symphony of silk, tulle, and chiffon - just picture a vibrant explosion of pinks, pastels, and shockingly fabulous magenta! Honestly, I could have died and gone to a heavenly costume shop, just like that!

Anyway, to the utter joy and utter disbelief of the locals, one little ballerina (oh, her name was Beatrice, if you can believe it! Such an absolute dream) simply started spinning - a tutu masterpiece swirling in her hands - and then… this! All those tutu-less patrons (poor souls!), they just burst into applause and started dancing around the cafe, some in pairs, others simply by themselves, twirling and giggling like happy pixies!

And from that, darlings, a trend was born! That's right, this tiny cafe (which I’m afraid now boasts an espresso machine that can only manage an appalling ‘black sludge’) is at the heart of a tutu fashion frenzy.

Now, you may think I'm simply raving, but I swear! London has gone mad for tulle, darlings! Just the other day, I witnessed the most delightful spectacle! You see, dear readers, this group of boys from that terribly stuffy choir school (with a terrible, terribly boring wardrobe!), started marching out their doors… in tutus! Now, they were just plain, plain white tutus, but they marched around those cobblestones and sang (poorly, I’m afraid) with a glee I have never seen.

As a trend-setter, I can tell you that tutus aren't just a whimsical fancy now, oh no! We've seen the Queen (bless her!) take a shine to a few new royal tulle delights (my personal favorite: that shocking pink number with the silver detailing, you simply have to see it!). The Chancellor wore a fetching baby blue tutu while proposing new policies (my word, such a dashing politician!) And, dare I say, some of those very questionable-taste footballers wore some rather ‘interesting’ tutus in the latest match. Honestly, if it’s worn by royalty, politicians, and athletes… then it must be good!

Now, my dears, for the truly discerning eye (my kind, of course!) we must approach this new craze with a touch of panache, some chic, and of course, just a sprinkle of that irresistible sparkle that's our brand. So let’s move beyond the pale, the beige, the 'oh-so-boring!' And instead, let’s explore the wonder, the sheer glory, the utter joy of the tutu.

Now, some words on how to look simply divine in tulle, from my esteemed, little black book, if you please:

  • Do pick a tutu that is flattering on your frame, no one wants to be stuck in a fluffy, poofy, ball of disaster (although, on the wrong person, a 'disaster' tutu can be wonderfully chic!).
  • Don't just grab a tutu from your younger, more delicate ballerina relatives (this is strictly off limits, darlings!) The key is to choose one that makes you look your most radiant and fabulously festive.
  • Do experiment! Think colour, texture, length, and shape. My dearest friends! A white tutu paired with a crimson blouse can create a shocking contrast (just watch out for that espresso-sludge cafe...they may be out of that glorious coffee but they will stain!) And of course, that vibrant magenta will complement just about any occasion.
  • Don’t forget accessories! Add that touch of sophistication: think long, dramatic earrings, a statement necklace, a bejewelled fascinator...but remember, the key is to create a balance of chic, darling.

So there you have it, my little lovelies! It seems our little ballet-inspired, tutu-licious trend is just getting started. Don't you just love those moments when a frivolous little accident leads to such beautiful (and somewhat chaotic!) consequences?
