Tutu and Ballet News

Tutus: They’re not just for ballerinas anymore, darlings!

Well, hello there, you fabulous creatures! Your girl, the one and only, Miss Mimi de Plume, back with the hottest scoop straight from the world of dance – because let’s face it, my dears, even the most high-brow art form needs a little bit of… well, sparkle. And let me tell you, the world of ballet has been positively positively popping with glittery tulle lately! You won’t believe what I discovered while swanning through Harrods the other day - they’ve got a whole new line of tutus!

Now, I know what you’re thinking: “Miss Mimi, darling, what’s the deal with tutus? Are they really just for ballerina princesses? Isn’t it 2000? ” And to that I say – well, sweetie, the answer is, it depends! These new tutus aren’t just about leaping across a stage, though a bit of pirouette practice never hurt anyone! These tutus are about an attitude. They’re a statement. A fabulous statement! Think Carrie Bradshaw at a cocktail party, not Swan Lake. And they are most definitely not just for ballerinas!

I mean, can we talk about this glorious “Tutu as a Top” trend? The latest look is pairing a chic, poufy tutu with a little black blazer, some killer stilettos and a killer attitude. It’s like the dance version of grunge but, dare I say, way more chic. Now, I might be biased as an acclaimed dance aficionado (and also, you know, a tiny bit of a fashionista myself) but I find the whole look rather delightful! And surprisingly versatile, too!

Here’s a little taste of my favourite “Tutu Trend” finds so far:

  • The “I’m So Fancy” Tutu ( think feather boa, oversized sunglasses and champagne!): This tutu is perfect for that special someone (that’s you, darling!). This tulle masterpiece is dripping in sparkly rhinestones and adorned with tiny plumes for a hint of drama – but no worries, it's just the right side of camp, don’t you think? The only rule here? Don't wear it to a school play (but do wear it to a birthday party - even if you're the birthday girl!)
  • The “Tutu As A Top” Look: Oh honey, is this the year for a wardrobe upgrade, or what! You’ll have everyone whispering “slay” with this one, which you can style in the classic way with black tights and an oversized leather jacket or jazz it up a little with a bold satin blouse! But whatever you choose, make sure your heels are ready to dance the night away – and you better bring the drama! (Plus, a dramatic, smokey eye never hurt anybody! And definitely never underestimate the power of a fierce lipstick, darling! Just look at what Kylie Jenner does to a lip! )
  • The “Classic, but make it chic” look: Now, let’s be honest, sometimes a girl just wants a little touch of elegant, demure tulle, especially for those times when a ballerina in a sparkly costume might be just a tad OTT! And with a classic black or white tutu in a lightweight chiffon, the only question is - who to wear it to dinner with? Or for cocktails in the park with? And when you go out there looking like a sophisticated goddess – just make sure to add an air of casual chic to your look with an easy sweater or relaxed jeans! It’s all about balance, darlings.

Of course, it wouldn't be right to leave you all hanging without some pearls of wisdom on how to pull off these fabulous looks (and we all want to be fabulous, don't we?). Just remember – don't be afraid to have a little fun with it, darling. Tutus aren't just about rigid elegance; they’re about expressing your inner ballerina – however flamboyant, fabulous and flamboyant you are!

So there you have it, darlings! As the undisputed queen of style and glamour in the dance world, I'm here to tell you that tutus are about to make a huge comeback – and trust me, my sweet readers, that's a very good thing!

See you next time! And don't forget to twirl!

Lots of Love,
Miss Mimi de Plume
