Darling, you know what they say - a girl's gotta wear a tutu at least once in her life, right? I mean, if you've got the legs for it - and let's face it, who hasn't got at least one fabulously fabulous leg these days? Well, darling, this isn't your grandma's ballet. We're talking full-on, feather boa, diamond encrusted, "I can conquer the world" kind of tutus here. Let's be honest, when was the last time you saw a tutu that could make you go "ooh la la"?
Youâre just gonna have to trust me on this one - the fashion world is seriously losing its collective mind right now for all things ballet. I'm talking the most tutus on the runways and in all the magazines. Think about it - pink, frothy, and just about everything you ever wished for when you were 12 and pretending you were a Sugarplum Fairy at the barre in your bedroom.
Itâs a bit ironic really, you'd think that these fluffy little things would be locked away in dusty museum displays - but these tutus are here, and here to stay - think big pouffy tutu skirts on jeans for an evening look, a slinky black leotard tucked into a fabulous glitzy tutu - even a sparkly little mini tutu for your lunch date - why not?
Well darling, letâs put it this way, these little wonders are a very fashionable affair - if youâre planning on hitting any of the hottest summer parties in the Hamptons, Monte Carlo or any other fab spot, darling - you absolutely have to be prepared. But hereâs a little insider tip, donât be afraid to show your individual style. Think vintage Chanel paired with a beautiful tulle tutu - the possibilities really are endless.
Let me tell you all about some of the fab ideas that have been hitting the red carpets this week
Fashion SpotlightOkay darlings, lets' be honest here. When it comes to tulle and frills we all have one name in mind - it's got to be Dior - Itâs been so popular you could barely wriggle in the door. The collections are all over the shop, and have had the internet ablaze with comments all week âWho would wear it?â. But letâs face it - this isnât just some off the shelf number darling, the styling has all been carefully considered, even for Dior this look is absolutely the talk of the town.
My favourite so far is the divine Lily Allen - this girlâs just one step ahead of the fashion pack every time - I am loving the sheer white tulle dress she is rocking at the London Dior opening - with some exquisite vintage diamond jewelry - divine!
- What a hoot - Well there was another rather notable lady turning up at a party last night wearing one of these beauties. It was no other than the fabulous - yes I mean fabulous Elizabeth Hurley. It seems like the queen of style loves her a tutu - well I would be tempted to sport one too in this gorgeous coral hue. Just amazing!
- Think about it - if youâve got a dress that needs just that little extra something something, add in a simple white tutu with a beautiful pearl trim, to take you straight into party perfection - itâs the easiest, and oh-so-gorgeous upgrade.
- Do not even try to tell me that your life is lacking the pizazz of a full length feathered tutu with the diamante detail. Itâs just not going to be possible - And I am saying it as a stylist - go get yourself a proper feathered and fully fabulous tutu if you are at all serious about becoming a fashion darling. If thereâs one piece of advice I will give to any up and coming fashionable woman this season is get a good tutu.
- Be honest - we are now seeing tutus take over the high street, with a few of my favorite designers taking things in a very sophisticated direction - I was delighted to spot a darling new black tutu with silver embellishment at my local - M&S of all places! Who would have thought - they must have taken inspiration from those chic black tutus the French gals have been wearing all summer.
Right now everyoneâs going nuts over these ballerina inspired dresses, skirts, even tops, it's not exactly groundbreaking fashion darling, and to be honest, the first few pieces were a little rough around the edges - I can still see the cringe worthy, 'I'm going to a school danceâ versions lingering - youâd better believe it, but this is what the fashion world is all about - taking that 'daring' to an absolutely new level - I can't tell you enough - if youâve got the chance to get your tutu on and strut your stuff darling - you've simply got to do it.
It is definitely something that I would describe as âstatement styleâ, darling. There is so much emphasis on femininity and elegance - with so much opportunity to go crazy with those embellishments, especially as I have been mentioning, diamond encrusted and jeweled details on all those layers and layers of tulle.
Think you are all too old?We are all trying to get away with looking as glamorous as possible darling, and who wants to look 35 again, I know I sure donât, so why not embrace these fabulous designs, they just work.
I always try to remember that it's never too late to live your own fantasy life and whatâs more fabulous than wearing your own little fairy tale.
