Tutu and Ballet News

Dearest readers, Oh my goodness, darling, it's August the 15th and you know what that means? It's Tutu Tuesday, of course! And as you can imagine, it's been a whirl of frills and fabulousness around the ballet world. Speaking of the ballet world, darling, the news is simply divine. It seems that thereā€™s a rumour afoot about a revolution, and Iā€™m not talking about a Bolshevik-inspired upheaval ā€“ no darling, itā€™s all about **tutus**, those heavenly creations of tulle and whimsy that grace our ballerinas. It all started, rumour has it, in the hallowed halls of the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. Apparently, there was a gathering of all the principle dancers, and they were not only whispering amongst themselves but the gossip went round as fast as a triple pirouette. There was a lot of rustling of fabric as they smuggled out brand new tutus from their dressing rooms ā€“ they wanted a peek at what each other was going to wear for the **new season**! Apparently the new designs are a triumph!

One darling little rumour doing the rounds ā€“ the French design house, Christian Lacroix, who normally only makes haute couture for Paris, is creating an absolutely breathtaking new design. It's supposedly a masterpiece of billowing silk, satin ribbons and feathers ā€“ truly a tribute to the classic tutus of yore and an utter feast for the eyes. Let's hope it doesn't come with a Ā£5,000 price tag!

Now, I know what you're thinking, dear reader: how is this revolutionary? Well, darling, for years the traditional ballet tutu has been the subject of endless debate and discussion. Some of you, my lovelies, have even felt a touch... dare I say it, a little bit "**over**" them, But darling, nothing is ever truly ā€œoverā€ , right? Especially not a ballet tutu, darling! They are, after all, symbols of grace, elegance andā€¦well, you knowā€¦ tutu-ness! The sheer spectacle of their billowing beauty simply has to be seen to be believed! But enough of my waxing lyricalā€¦

The point is, dear readers, there is a new wave of excitement swirling around the ballet scene and, of course, everyone knows it all hinges on that glorious invention known as a **tutu**. And how will this new design revolutionise the ballet world? I donā€™t know yet but Iā€™ve heard tell there will be a launch of the design during the autumn **ballet season**, which means a red carpet event at the opera house, with the best and brightest of the ballet world parading their new **tutus**. You just know the photographer's flashes are going to go crazy!

Oh, darling, this is so excitingā€¦ but now my tea is getting cold and I just canā€™t imagine an August afternoon without my little cuppa. I must away! But in the meantime, do have the best possible Tutu Tuesday and keep watching this space for more news of this thrilling tutu transformation! Love, The Ballet Blog
Tutu Tuesday news in bullet points
* New designs have emerged, bringing back the classic design but with a more modern flair * rumours abound regarding new ballet tutu designs at Covent Garden Royal Ballet * new designs feature a symphony of silk and satin ribbons, as well as beautiful feathers * launch event expected to be in Autumn during the **ballet season**.

I, The Ballet Blog author, am delighted at the return to more classic design for tutus. This has been a long-overdue shift in ballet fashions, as for a while we saw tutus, becoming more ā€œ **industrial-styleā€**, something that seemed very **over-engineered** and far removed from their beautiful origins.

A tutu, after all, should be nothing more than light fabric flowing gracefully and making our ballerinas look utterly stunning and glamorous. The **reawakening** of a classic ballet tradition like this one makes me think about fashion in general: what can we expect?

What could the revival of the ballet tutuā€™s simplicity do for fashion, both for high **couture** and everyday fashion? Could it lead to a simpler take on clothes and away from the excessive styling, or even the huge clothing sizes that are commonplace now.

Could this change herald a new era in fashion - one with less excessive decoration? Could there be a return to more minimalist designs - after all, simplicity is a luxury.

All that's left for me to do now, darlings, is raise my teacup to this wonderful new development and imagine a world of twirling tulle and billowing fabric, And as a devotee of the most divine fashion trends - who knows, perhaps in a year from now, the London Fashion Week catwalk will be bursting with designs influenced by those classic tutuā€™s

As Iā€™ve said ā€“ we need to keep watching this space - and letā€™s be optimistic as our fabulous fashion future lies in front of us.

Love always, The Ballet Blog
