Tutu and Ballet News

Oh, darling! It's a Tutus-tastic Tuesday!

As the sun peeks through the gauzy curtains of my Kensington flat, and my morning cappuccino foams with frothy delight, I'm already enthralled by today's momentous news – it's Tutus Tuesday, 26th August, 2000!

For the uninitiated, dear reader, let me paint a picture. Imagine a flurry of silk and tulle, swirling in a captivating pirouette of pink, powder blue, and even a dash of hot fuchsia. That, my lovelies, is the essence of a tutu. This iconic piece of ballet garb, a symbol of grace, beauty, and all things delightful, is deserving of its own day of celebration, don’t you think?

Now, I know what you're thinking, "Tutus? What's the big deal? Aren't they just glorified skirts?". Ah, my dear, you've clearly never witnessed the transformative power of a tutu! It's a magical garment that can whisk a girl from a humdrum Tuesday to a magical ballet scene in seconds! And frankly, who doesn't want a touch of magic in their lives?

But let’s be realistic, even we dance divas know, it’s not always rainbows and pirouettes. Today, there’s a slight tutu-mentary (you can thank me later for that brilliant pun!) crisis in the making, and it has to do with… the colour pink. Shocking, I know, darling!

You see, the esteemed Madame Pompadour, famed tutu designer of the Royal Ballet, has declared an unexpected love for teal. Yes, you heard right, teal! And it seems the entire Royal Ballet company is aghast! The usual ballet pinks and powdery blues, the foundation of every tutu wardrobe since, well, forever, are being replaced with this, let’s be polite, rather audacious colour!

A little bird (well, more like a ballerina with impeccable sources) told me there are serious murmurings backstage, a kind of whispered “are you having a laugh, Madame Pompadour?”, coupled with more than a few panicked, late-night calls to the local dry cleaner. My sources tell me, there have been some…spirited conversations regarding the merits of fuchsia.

There’s only one place to turn to for enlightenment: The Society of Tutus, founded in 1998, just last year, to ensure the sanctity of all things tutu-related, (of which I happen to be an enthusiastic member – hello, pink!)

The Society’s current president, the ever-so-stylish Ms. Beatrice “B” Kensington (she was just on the front cover of Vogue, and we happen to have the same hairdresser – don’t tell anyone!) will hold an emergency summit today. She is renowned for her exquisite tutus and impeccable taste, so I, for one, will be awaiting her wisdom with bated breath (and perhaps, just maybe, with a cup of tea!).

Will the teal tsunami wash away the ballet world’s beloved pink hues forever? Will this audacious colour turn the Royal Ballet into a sartorial tragedy? Or will this “turbulent” (another pun? Why not? It’s Tuesday! ) situation lead to a glorious embrace of new and unexpected tutu colours? The fate of ballet, my lovelies, rests in the hands of a tutu and the heart of a dedicated, slightly neurotic, but undeniably glamorous society. Stay tuned, darlings! I will keep you abreast, no pun intended (ha, ha!) of all the exciting developments in the tutu world!

Let’s not forget the top 3 trends for your fabulous Tutu Tuesday:

  • **Think “Tulle Time!” ** Get your pink tulle out – you're gonna need it, dear! Whether it’s a little tutu-licious accessory or a full-blown fairytale costume, your personal pink tulle celebration will surely turn heads, especially if you have some amazing dance moves to boot.
  • **Support your local ballerina.** Reach out to a friend or relative who performs on stage. A thoughtful tutu-related gift goes a long way in showing your appreciation.
  • **Eat your weight in cupcakes.** Why not, darling? It’s Tuesday, and they’re basically cake in a skirt! (And cupcakes in tutus… don't even get me started!)

Enjoy, my darlings, and keep your tutus, and spirits, high! The world awaits!
