Tutu and Ballet News

Well, darlings, it's 21st November 2000, and you know what that means? Yes, it's the day that we all celebrate the exquisite beauty and grace of the tutu. Honestly, it's been a tough day, what with the endless phone calls from various magazines about my “latest trend analysis”, and frankly, it’s just *too* much. They want to know my *opinion* on everything from the colour of the sky to the colour of that dreadful yellowing plastic handbag I saw someone carrying down the road earlier, but all *I* can think about are the glorious twirls of a ballerina in a perfectly pouffed tutu.

Now, before I get carried away, let’s put this whole “tutu thing” into context. There have been those ghastly “no-frills” ballerinas, yes, those *very* unfashionable sorts, but then there are the likes of Dame Margot Fonteyn who literally *redefined* grace with each *perfectly* sculpted step. There were times she wore something *like* a tutu and I’m sure everyone swooned at the sight of her floating effortlessly through the air. Of course, it is important to add a pinch of drama and mystery. One must keep one’s ballerina look a touch *ironic* and even somewhat *deliberately* *outdated.*

The thing is, the tutu – the original tutu, anyway, with all its fabulousness – has an undeniably classic look that will *never* go out of fashion. It is pure romanticism! Just think about it. We see this in the works of those who make a living out of the tutu, and not only does the sheer elegance of their work never seem to fail, the look actually seems to grow on us with time. You’ve just got to find your *signature* look - which doesn't really *require* much effort at all - you can choose to be a "big and pouffy" tutu or the *ever* so feminine "smaller and delicate" kind - whatever your personal preference - or you can, even go down the route of “ballet chic” like the chic Audrey Hepburn – the world is literally your *dancing* oyster!

The good news is that, *believe me,* tutus have *come back* and *never* will they leave us in peace. This is not some passing phase! Tutues have definitely found their place *once* again on catwalks, from New York to Paris, and all points in between. That’s because, at its best, the tutu represents a dream: It whispers of something romantic and feminine, with a splash of deliberate rebellion. There's a lot of the *modern* about the whole look. The “ tutu” look itself says "I dare you!" and it also says, "I am not *just* a tutu girl, but someone with taste." In this sense, the *tutu* allows you to show you have taste. This is a look for *confident* people – after all, tutus aren't the easiest look to carry off, are they?

In this modern era, with so many different interpretations of “tutu”, one does wonder if we have actually reached the point of the tutu becoming the *must have* item in any wardrobe? Personally, I think it *almost* is. To prove this to you, I’ve put together a quick list of reasons why you should buy yourself a tutu! And do you know what it will cost? Well, darling, with this level of *fabulousness* at your feet, it’ll probably cost you just a bit more than *you* have in your purse at present... or so you *may* think.... you *will* be a tutu diva at the most affordable price! You can thank me later... and with a few clever styling tricks – the tutu *will* take centre stage in your look, I promise you... just *dare* to do it:

**The reason’s why you need a tutu in your life!**

  • A tutu will transform a basic little dress into a dazzling statement!
  • If your look needs that extra spark or a hint of *exquisite* drama, there's just no better option!
  • The tutu says, “ I am bold but I *do* know my own style!”.

If you’re still thinking, “Is a tutu really *for me*” I dare you to say, " I love it." and watch yourself walk into an *undeniably* chic and feminine new era of style. The *perfect* tutu look really *is* there for everyone - whether you’re into a “street- chic” look, or are all about the *full* “ ballerina thing”, it *will* work - guaranteed!

The real issue is not, "How do *I* carry it off?” it’s how can *you* stop it from stealing all the attention - or as I said earlier, you can wear a tutu to add that touch of *modern* and *ironic* in what you are wearing. A good look is always the outcome of a confident spirit which a tutu allows you to project and this *is* how we know we live in an age of the *tutu*.
