Tutu and Ballet News

Darling, I simply can’t believe it, it's official - 27 April 2001 will be known forever as National Tutus Day! That’s right, girls, all you need to do to celebrate this grand occasion is put on your finest feather boas and most elegant tulle creations. Get those sequined slippers out of storage and don your best, darling, it's Tutus Day!

You’ll be thrilled to know that our fearless Minister for Cultural Affairs (who I absolutely adore and is very much on my invite list for my next dinner party, if I’m perfectly honest - he simply understands what we all want, what every woman wants) announced that all women will have a legally recognised excuse to be completely frivolous for the entire day. We can finally strut about with our favourite poufy tutus without being stopped by the fashion police! I mean, I’m just so excited I’ve been practically swirling about all day, dreaming of an actual tutu parade. Isn't it fantastic?

The day will be even more glorious with the help of a magnificent, free nationwide campaign by ‘Dance with Us’, a not-for-profit company that actually puts a smile on the face of any girl who fancies a little shimmy! The organisation will hand out tiny free tutus to every single woman in the country - how absolutely fabulous! Don’t worry, they’ll all come in pretty pastels, and will, of course, be totally flattering to any body type. And with that delicious new sachet of ‘Fizzy Feet’, which you all absolutely MUST have - it's fabulous - even tired feet can twinkle about!

What more could a girl ask for?

Now I know, darling, some of you might be a little resistant to embracing your inner prima ballerina. Let's be honest, those pouffy things haven't really had the best PR. They’re the subject of many silly jokes. But, come on, they are simply divine and what more delicious symbol could you find to celebrate the gloriousness that is the female form?

Honestly, who could even imagine celebrating such an important day in anything else?! Just picture yourself gliding past, in a cloud of glorious, floaty tulle, feeling powerful, happy, and completely free. Go on, just close your eyes and imagine, dear - I dare you not to have a big old, girly giggle!

We have to thank that fantastic, modern dance company that has brought a new lease of life to our tutus. 'Whimsical Twirls' have a wonderful message of body positivity, which is simply vital, darling, in today's society! The company's 'Tututastic’ campaign has encouraged so many people to just embrace themselves - a joyful acceptance of just who you are which, if I’m being brutally honest, isn’t exactly the message coming out of some other ballet companies. Just try a whirl in a tutu and you'll find yourself dancing on a cloud!

To be completely honest, the Ministry has also had a massive say in this incredible day of dancing. The Ministers are a group of fabulously forward thinking, hip people, who, let’s face it, don’t have a single fuddy-duddy bone in their beautiful bodies. Let’s all get behind these fab individuals, let's applaud their revolutionary ways. The Ministers, however, insisted on just one rule to ensure the fun doesn’t go overboard (no one wants an army of dancers turning their noses at us for not celebrating it properly). We can, darling, have our free tutus and all the fizzy feet we like but we can only wear our feathered accessories before 11.30 am. So make sure you take full advantage, go all out before noon because when it's past eleven thirty it will be strictly no-feather time for the rest of the day.

We know this one is all about us girls. So grab your bestie and make sure that all the important female people in your lives - your mummy, your aunts, your cousins, the ladies who work at your favourite shop (especially that little shop in the town center which, if you'll forgive me saying, sells the absolute best handbags and has the most delightful assistant, who is such an absolute doll!) - are told the good news!

So let's make this a grand occasion, darling. All I can say is that, if I was a man, I would be in for the best, longest and most fantastic kiss ever! Now you see why National Tutu Day is something worth celebrating?

However, be careful when choosing your perfect tutu - too much tulle can be a dangerous thing. Some things are simply beyond us, my dear, because let’s be honest - how will the lovely lads be able to spot our divine features underneath all that fluff and fancy footwork?

In honor of this fabulous event, here are some tutu fashion tips to really up your game: * **Tulle of the highest quality, please. Don’t even think of thinking of a low-grade version for a celebration of this magnitude! A bit of sparkle never hurts, and just a touch of color to really complete the look, and you are off, girl. There are even specially created "Tutu T-shirts" and "Tutu Trainers", don't even ask me how they made those ones...** * **Think, for goodness sake, think about your legs, ladies, especially your shoes! Don’t leave it to the last minute, darling, make sure you have a great pair of matching shoes. No ballerina’s feet without some sparkly and chic shoes to complete the ensemble. And just a dash of "Dance Like No One Is Watching” (because frankly - who cares what people think on such an exciting day?!)** * **Your make up, darlings. Your faces will, of course, be the focal point when everyone’s gazing down on you. Let's keep it bold, bright and vibrant, shall we, to emphasize that beauty comes in many different colors and that you’re unique. A dash of bright eye-shadow will be very important in setting a mood, or so I've been told.** * **Now your hair, darling - get your tresses styled up in the best ballerina bun you’ve ever had (get a specialist to give you a lesson if needed - you’ll need one for sure!). Let those locks become the show stopper of the day! I know we have one on our team that specialises in “buns” (he doesn't do the baking, it's hair, darling) - but we haven't revealed the big secret as yet. Be a diva darling! We need that glamorous, effortless look.** * **If, for any reason, a little tutuing just isn't for you - why not simply join the celebrations by trying on your most stylish pair of pants or a lovely, light summery dress. The best way to celebrate is to feel confident in your own skin - it’s really important! And remember - what better way to start the day than by throwing some sparkles on your shoes, grabbing your girl, and having some fun!**

Have fun and stay gorgeous. You are fabulous! I can't wait for the big day to arrive.
