Tutu-tastic! A Dance-Filled Day in the Life of a Tutu-Obsessed Ballerina!

Darling, gather 'round! It's the 12th of July 2001, and the air is thick with the scent of lavender and dreams of pirouettes! For, oh my darlings, this is the day that our lives revolve around – Tutu Day!

It started at the crack of dawn, as always, with my ritual: a quick ballet class at the barre (well, a quick ballet class for me, which, in truth, was probably about the same length as a marathon in the world of the normal folk!). After an invigorating session of fouettés and jetés, I slipped into my newest acquisition: a gloriously shimmering pink tutu with fluffy tulle that looked as if it could whisk me away to a fairytale castle in the clouds. And yes, you know I had a photo shoot planned for Instagram, naturally!

Now, no tutu-loving soul can resist a spot of tea after a ballet class, and this day was no different! I skipped over to my favourite café, "The Ballet Box," where I treated myself to a decadent pastry – you guessed it, it was shaped like a tutu. Yes, darling, a pastry chef in our village is actually obsessed with tutus, who knew?!

Tutus, you see, aren’t just a garment, they’re an entire philosophy, darling! A tutu, especially when it's paired with perfectly-applied eye shadow (and don't even get me started on my contouring), is a symbol of strength, grace, and a pinch of whimsical, ballet-fuelled joy!

Tutu Talk with My Fashion Guru:

You can’t even imagine my excitement for the afternoon, when I met with my absolutely wonderful (and totally obsessed with fashion, just like me!) tutu designer, Brenda. Oh darling, you should see her atelier! Fabric swishing, scissors clicking, it's like a tutu wonderland! She’s a bit like Coco Chanel, but, of course, with more feathers and sparkles. You just can't get away from that in the world of the tutu, sweetie!

  • She told me: "This season, we're going for the classic tutu silhouette but with a contemporary twist." She flicked a tulle-laden tassel with a mischievous twinkle in her eye. "A touch of the avant-garde, perhaps?" I simply gushed!
  • Later, over an espresso (that was served with a petite, adorable, pink sugar cube in the shape of a, yes, you guessed it, tutu!), we discussed the upcoming ballet season. Brenda assured me: "Tutus are still the top trend in the dance world, but this year, we’re seeing some unique patterns and innovative colour palettes. We’ve even incorporated some iridescent materials, darlings, think about the possibilities for the light!

The afternoon flew by with a flurry of tutu-related activity! We took a stroll through the local vintage store, (naturally, in search of a unique piece to compliment my own tutu collection). You can't get enough tutus, really. The shopkeeper, dear Elsie, is a little eccentric but an absolute darling. You should have seen her gasp at the exquisite black feathered tutu that I discovered hidden in the back! (We both knew, that tutu was going to my upcoming show!)

I spent the rest of the afternoon indulging in the ultimate tutu-filled luxury: a lavishly scented, shimmering tutu bath with pink-tinted bath bubbles and bath oil – I swear, darlings, it felt as if I had transformed into a princess floating in a bath of starlight!

You may be wondering why this was "Tutu Day"? Well, darlings, it just seemed appropriate. This was the day I received my custom-made tulle, from Brenda’s Atelier! Yes, you know, you can never have too many tutus. Never.

My custom tutu had a special message inscribed on the tulle (in glitter! Of course!). "Keep on Dancing, My Love". It was a reminder that no matter what life throws my way, the beauty of ballet, and the joy of a good tutu, will always bring me back to the centre, the joy and, yes, a touch of twirling wonder!

As the day ended with the final brushstrokes on my blush-pink nails (perfect to go with my new tutu, naturellement!) I knew I was living a life of ballerina bliss, every single moment. So darling, never forget this, in a world that can be often mundane and tedious, embrace your tutu-ness, go for that pirouette, and, of course, live with a sense of wonder and grace! And please darling, remember always to look fabulous, for as the dear Coco Chanel herself would say, "Fashion fades, but style is eternal". But I’ll be honest darling, tutus never really fade, they just become a timeless classic.
