Tutu and Ballet News

Oh darling, can you believe it? The day is finally here! It's 14 July 2001 and you know what that means? It's National Tutu Day! Yes, you read that right. It's an official day to celebrate all things tutus! The day dedicated to a dancer's best friend, a flurry of tulle, a masterpiece of flounce and frills!

Let me tell you, I have been working up to this day. Not in the conventional sense, darlings. Think more: endless research on the evolution of tutus. I've been poring over old theatre programmes and spending a delightful afternoon rummaging in charity shops, looking for those vintage tutus with that quintessential air of faded glamour.

You see, darling, it's important that this National Tutu Day isn't just some run-of-the-mill celebration. We have to make a big splash, give the tutu the respect it deserves, and most importantly, spread the joy.

Speaking of joy, did you know that tutus have been spreading joy for almost 200 years? It's a veritable fashion institution. Imagine a time before leggings! Thank heavens Marie Taglioni took a leap and decided to wear a white, billowing skirt in "La Sylphide." She basically invented ballet as we know it - the graceful movements, the athleticism, the *je ne sais quoi* ... It's all thanks to her! A queen in tulle. We should give her an honorary knighthood! But alas, darling, we can't rewind the clock. But we can embrace the gloriousness of tutus! We must make the most of it.

And how are we celebrating this monumental day? Well, we have a lovely itinerary lined up. Here's your to-do list:

  • **First and foremost: Don your tutu. ** This is non-negotiable. Go bold or go home. This isn't a time for pastels and floral prints, darling. We're talking dramatic, fabulous, full-on tulle! Find that statement-piece you've been saving in your closet. I just love a bit of vintage. That's the magic ingredient to this look - it doesn't matter if the seams are starting to fray a little! Itโ€™s a timeless classic and all that matters is you go full tulle!
  • **Strike a pose for your gram.** Get your inner prima ballerina on and showcase those beautiful legs! Remember darling, there are no rules, this is about having fun. But keep the selfies classy! No inappropriate hand gestures.
  • **Bake a tutu-shaped cake**. Let your inner baker shine! I have a wonderful recipe I found in my granny's cookbook! It's so simple, all you need are sugar, butter, flour, and lots of pink food colouring! You canโ€™t go wrong! It's an all-round classic.
  • **Spread the word.** Tell everyone you know it's National Tutu Day! Spread the love of the most beautiful garment a dancer can wear!
  • **Take a dance lesson** . Dust off those tap shoes and get your rhythm going! It's the best excuse to dance the day away!
  • **Organise a tea party** . The best part is, darling, your tutu is your excuse to enjoy lots and lots of finger sandwiches. Tea is so terribly glamorous, darling. I simply adore it.
  • So there you have it, my dears. Your guide to a wonderful National Tutu Day. Go forth and conquer the day! Remember, if there's anything you're unsure about, I'm always here, ready with a tutu tip and a glass of prosecco!

But darling, do we really need a special day to appreciate the gloriousness of a tutu? Isn't everyday tutu day?
