Tutu and Ballet News

Darlings, can you believe it? Today, 29th September, marks the day that our nation, our very souls, were shaken to the core byā€¦ a **tutu** shortage! I know, I know, you're thinking: "What is this fabulous woman talking about? Did the squirrels get their tiny paws on the tulle?". Let me explain.

As we all know, the world of ballet is a delicate, yet powerful one. Itā€™s the realm of the graceful, the whimsical, the... sometimes ridiculous. And no, I donā€™t just mean the fact that weā€™re essentially wearing fancy petticoats on stage. This particular debacle, my lovelies, stemmed from something truly astonishing - the sudden and inexplicable popularity of ballet.

Now, I, your glamorous guide to all things pirouette and pliĆ©, must admit that Iā€™ve never actually seen a tutu-shaped object cause such a stir. Even the notoriously dramatic prima ballerina of the Royal Ballet didn't cause this much commotion! This whole crisis kicked off, apparently, with a random interview by some bloke in a newspaper. I know, it sounds bonkers, right? Apparently this journalist asked, ā€œSo, what makes the world of ballet tick?ā€ The dancer in question (I canā€™t even remember her name, dear, because she was as boring as beige ballet shoes) went off on a long and winding ramble about how tutus were actually 'the cornerstone of everything balletā€™. Suddenly, as if by some magic spell cast by the fashion gods, the world went tutu mad.

Demand for tulle reached epic levels, even higher than the dramatic leaps of our star dancers. All across the country, little girls (and surprisingly, a surprising number of boys) dreamt of wearing a fluffy cloud of fabric and prancing about their living rooms to Swan Lake. Schools reported a boom in registrations for ballet classes. Grandmas were crocheting tiny tutus for their grandkids (I kid you not!). It was chaos, absolute, utterly glamorous chaos!

So what does this tell us? Firstly, never underestimate the power of the media and its ability to manufacture the most ridiculous trends (because honestly, we all know that tulle is nothing special until the media throws its spotlight on it, dear.) Secondly, we have a nation in dire need of some good old-fashioned tutus! Thankfully, the good news is that all this tulle-based craziness hasn't dampened our spirits (and certainly not our fabulous fashion). Our local costume shop (with a charming proprietor who is so terribly divine and whose shop smells like floral perfumes and glitter), has stepped up to the challenge! Not only did she replenish her tutu supply within days, but she also brought in some extra fancy, feather-trimmed numbers for those extra special occasions. You know what I'm talking about, my darlings.

The moral of the story, darlings, is that tutus truly do rule. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. And if you need to brush up on your arabesque, Iā€™ve got a lovely dance studio downtown, perfectly placed, with the most elegant staff and perfectly lovely, spacious dressing rooms (we all know how hard it is to find a decent place to change in your dancing garb without ruining that immaculate look). So do drop in! We have open doors, lovely classes for all levels, and we can always use an extra pair of feet (and a smile, of course) to add some joie de vivre to our studios. We just may even have a spare tutu or two. So there you have it. All the ballet, all the tutus, all the fashion, just for you.

I know this all sounds a little silly, but, as you all know, I simply adore all things girly, and tulle and a ballerina twirling in it always bring a smile to my face. So letā€™s just hope the nationā€™s passion for tutus remains as steadfast as my passion for fashion, even if our national ballet schools have had to deal with a rather unprecedented tulle shortage!

Well, that's all the latest from me, my dears. Stay tuned, the world of fashion (and sometimes even ballet) is as fickle and as unpredictable as a tutu on a windy day, so you never know whatā€™s next! As the fashion world's resident diva of dance and fashion, I promise Iā€™ll bring you the latest news! Until next time!
