Tutu and Ballet News

Oh Darling, it’s Tutu Tuesday!

It's Tuesday, 9th October 2001, and you know what that means! It's time to unleash our inner ballerinas, darlings! Not that we ever really had to unleash it – we live, breathe and sleep for ballet, don't we? I mean, who needs to go to the pub when you have the Royal Opera House on your doorstep (and we all know which ballet we’re heading to later… “Swan Lake” of course!).

But today, my darlings, is *special* - because it's “Tutu Tuesday”! I’m pretty sure it's a recognised international holiday (no? Well, it should be, I’ve decreed it!) It's the perfect time to show off our best tutu, darling! And as the iconic Margot Fonteyn would have said: “Wear it with a *fierce* pride.”

Now, darling, don't be telling me you've forgotten about tutu etiquette! Of course, the key to rocking a tutu is to never over-do it! It's all about achieving that "effortless elegance". And what’s more effortless than floating across the street like a fluffy cloud? Okay, well, it is technically meant to be “dancing”, but we don't *have* to *do* the pirouettes out here, do we?

A perfect tutu needs a few essential things. Firstly, it has to have that ‘pouffy’ factor. I'm talking all about those glorious tiers of tulle that make you feel like you're floating on a dream. Don't be fooled by any ‘short skirt’ nonsense, it's *layers* darling, we're going for a proper ‘ballerina chic’ vibe, here. We don’t want our legs to show off too much, especially when we’re wearing our trusty ‘ballet shoe flats’. No-one can tell you haven’t danced in a couple of decades.

And who needs an endless repertoire of elaborate, uncomfortable underwear? Well, honestly, with all that tulle and the *choreography* that involves just walking (perhaps even sitting down on our special *padded* stool we brought along) who needs any underwear anyway! If we haven’t brought our special ‘portable dressing room’, darling, we certainly haven’t thought this day through… but never fear. A strategically placed ‘long coat’ will come in handy when the ‘changing moment’ occurs.

Now, the colour of the tutu is absolutely paramount. Personally, I'm a classic black and white girl. That chic contrast is what gets my blood pumping, honey! Black is truly glamorous and white reflects our pristine grace, yes? I like a tiny bit of sparkle in the form of strategically placed ‘sequin’ dots, though… we are going for a look that will stop everyone in their tracks. And trust me when I say it’s the *tutu*, darling, it’s not a cheap tutu, but *quality* always shows in a fine ensemble!

Now let’s get into what to *wear* *with* the tutu, darlings! Well, honestly, it doesn't need much, because the tutu does all the talking. We need to ensure the focus stays *there* as we, yes, we… “float gracefully” on our ‘stylish trip into town’. The classic ‘long coat’ as well as the trusty ‘ballet shoe flats’ have been touched upon… but I want to emphasise those flats… they’re the real key to *completing* the *look*, they add a touch of classic and chic… a true feminine grace to the whole look.

So, my dear friends, grab your finest tutu (a feather boa is *essential*), channel your inner ballerinas, and strut those streets! Let the world be filled with the sweet sounds of tutus rustling in the breeze, a ballet classic played on a carefully placed personal stereo to create an ‘atmosphere’ of dance, and (as long as we've followed ‘etiquette’… remember, it is the *tutu* that we are focusing on here, not our *appearance*, or that ‘tiny mishap’…) I guarantee, it’ll be an *amazing* “Tutu Tuesday"!
